British couple getting married in California

Lby1, on June 8, 2019 at 8:19 AM Posted in California Planning 0 5

Hi everyone, I hope I've put this in the right place.

Myself and my fiance are planning to get married in California in 2020. We are both British and living in the UK. We have been to California many times and always discussed marrying there. Now that we're engaged we feel a bit lost with where to start, especially as we're beginning to notice the differences with planning a wedding in the UK to the US. Does anyone have any general advice on where to start? We want to have a part in the planning and booking process, so we're thinking of having a day of coordination.

Any advice (not matter how simple) would be gratefully appreciated Smiley smile

I'm from California 😊 It's a huge state so my advice would be to decide on which part and what kind of venue sounds right to you! Outdoor or indoor? We're getting married in wine country because our first date was an 18 hour date in Napa 😂 But there are beach venues, outdoor venues in the redwoods, San Francisco, etc. If you can swing a trip out here to venue hunt, I'd recommend landing on your top 3 and coordinate visits for them on one trip, and also letting them know you're from the UK. They may be able to give you some info on a call ahead of time on their preferred vendor lists so you can pay them a visit at the same time as well.

Also, just know that California weddings are some of the most expensive. High season for weddings are roughly June-October. We're doing a Friday in late October and are saving a little bit on venue because of that. I'd consider a Friday/Sunday or even a midweek wedding if all your guests will be traveling for it anyway to save some cost.

Happy planning and happy to answer any other questions if you have them! ☺️

Also Wedgewood properties are all inclusive and they're all over the place here. They're typically on golf courses. An all inclusive venue is usually a bit more affordable and it'd also make for much easier planning from afar.

I second this! Using Wedgewood in California as I live in Texas. 😊 Happy planning! California is for sure beautiful and a built in honeymoon too!

A huge thank you Kaycee for the detailed information, and Nora too Smiley smile Before we'd even started looking we were thinking about a late October wedding too so that's great news about it being out of season and a bit cheaper. I'm hoping that we can make it mid-week as all of our party will be travelling anyways.

I'm just heading over to Wedgewood now to take a look at what they have. Will be sure to let you know if I have more questions further on in our search...I'm sure I will.

    Thank you!
