Brooch vs flower bouquet?

FutureMrsB (Aussie Bride!), on October 3, 2011 at 7:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 24

Straight forward question, how did you choose between brooch and flower bouquets, if you considered the two? This is my flower inspiration board: http://pinterest.com/casey1990/flowers/

I'll post some of my fave pics of the two...

ADD: I should add that we are having a vintage inspired spring garden wedding, with colours of aqua and peach.

Originally I was going to go the brooch route...But my Mom surprised me with a budget for a florist. I'd always dreamt of having a traditional floral bouquet. So I went the real flower route.

I found a brooch and silk bouquet on Ebay. Brooch bouquets are gorgeous, but they can be very heavy and uncomfortable. And even if you DIY buying the brooches can get pricy. Using both brooches and fabric is a great option.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the brooch bouquets, they look gorgeous but I don't think they're for me.

Anyway, I have heard that up to $500 if you do all brooches so it can be so much more than flowers. I LOVE you're inspiration pictures for the flowers especially the ones with the peonies!

I like them but they just would not go with my theme. Plus, I love flowers.. I don't know what I would do if I could not have a flower bouquet! (lol)

I'd actually never heard of doing a brooch bouquet until recently when my cousin's fiancee was asking people if they had brooches lying around so she could make one since it can get expensive I guess trying to purchase all the brooches.

I'd much rather do floral bouquets because they're more traditional and obviously a lot lighter than the brooches. I think the floral bouquets you pictured are very vintage looking and pretty. I'd definitely do the floral.

I like Shannon's idea of incorporating both flowers and brooches if you're in between what you really want.

OMG the brooches are beautiful! Just love it and think it would be to die for at a vintage garden wedding. I also think if you asked some close friends and family they would all donate a couple of pins for ya each. Now you have something borrowed, old and probably blue. I know I've got 20 in my jewelry box easy- ranging from flowers to birds, I've even got a lizard LOL

I love them both equally! Doing fresh flowers for me (I have this vision of a bouquet I want, and I'm sticking by it), and I'm doing my Great Grandmas Cameo on the bouquet handle like that first picture shows. We are doing (I'm making) brooch bouquets for the Moms as a keepsake gift. Nothing too elaborate, those things can get expensive.

I don't honestly think you're going to save money once you buy all those brooches.....I do like the idea of combining them though; one of my recent brides did white/cream roses with all rhinestone/crystal pins; it was beautiful and it didn't weigh a ton.

I also think that most of the ones I have seen in person have been too small in proportion to the bride.

I would say that brooch bouquets are super expensive, because you need so many of them, and they aren't cheap. I really like the fabric and brooch one that Shannon posted. I think it would blend very well with your vintage theme! And that would save you money...

    Thanks, Meghan. Smiley smile

My seller was from Ebay. It doesn't look like she has any currently made, but perhaps you could contact her directly. http://myworld.ebay.com/frankie3386/

I paid $40 for mine (I got the bridesmaid size because I'm very petite). It's a wonderful keepsake from my wedding day.

I can't decide either!!! I'm going for a vintage-inspired wedding too and brooches are perfect for that but I love flowers! Might think about mixing the two... but I haven't really seen that done before.

IF I do a brooch bouquet I'm going to have my BMs plan a brooch shower and everyone would bring one. I like the idea that then the brooches will have sentimental value... although it's a little scary because what if I don't like them all!

You can also go to the jewelry stores (claire's, icing, etc) and buy statement necklaces and take those apart. Many of the junior stores sell necklaces at bogo5%

I choose a brooch bouquet because I fell in love with the look. Also I wanted something that I could keep and maybe pass down to one of my kids, even if just bits and pieces, something I could never do with real flowers obviously.

I am doing a mixture of silk flowers and brooches. I think the 100% brooch bouquet looks to hard and the silk flowers softens the look. I'm not too worried about the weight because it's not like I'll be holding for 10 hours straight. Brooches can get expensive but I have found some gorgeous buttons for under $3 that I am using as well.

This is my ultimate favorite that I really, really want mine to look like.

I'm thinking about having my bouquet be real flowers accented with a brooch or two and having my MOH and BMs have brooch bouquets that I make. Also i'm thinking of making the groomsmen brooch boutonniers. Since i'm not having my ceremony for 18 months I have time to gather and make them. What do you guys think of the boutonnier idea? Our theme is Masquerade.
