Brother as bridesmaid??

Kayla, on August 4, 2017 at 2:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 43

Okay girls! So I am extremely particular about things, and that includes having an even number of people standing up on my side and on his side during our wedding. Some people are fine with uneven people, but that's non-negotiable for me. With that being said, my fiancé has 4 groomsman, and I only have 2 bridesmaids. (2 of mine backed out) However, I would love for my brother to be in my wedding too. Him and my fiancé are not close so it would make sense AND even things out for him to stand on my side by the girls. (That would make 3 people on each side). My mom says it's totally weird, but I know someone else who did it and it worked (guy was gay though, not sure if that changes things). My brother is a manly man but doesn't care either way. Thoughts??

As long as you don't make him wear the dress I don't think it matters which side he stands on lol

Absolutely include him on your side! There's nothing weird about having your brother up there to support you!

I have only 3 bridesmaids and my fiancé has 5 groomsman, so I'm have both my brothers stand on my side!

One of my BFFs is nonbinary and didn't feel comfortable wearing a dress, so they matched the wedding colors but wore a suit instead of a dress, so they half-way matched both sides.

Maybe your brother could do something similar and stand on your side?

I don't think it's weird but I also don't think you need even sides Smiley smile for the longest time I wanted even sides despite my FH's family telling me they wanted me to have more bridesmaids (I wasn't adding anyone just to add anyone..) now one of our groomsmen might have to back out last minute and if that happens whatever we'll be uneven. It's for a good reason so I'm fine with it.

My brother is my maid of honor. I'm calling him my Brian of Honor. I'm super excited for him to be in the wedding. He will be wearing the same tux that the FH's groomsmen are wearing. If you want to do it, have at it!

My brother was my brides-man. He wore a classic black tux like all of the groomsmen, but stood on my side. It was perfect.

I have a bridesman. I almost had a man of honor as well. FH has a groomsmaid.

I have a bridesman and my brother will be an usher (he didn't want to rent a tux or go to the bachelorette party). Definitely include him if you want!

FW and I are each having our brothers and one male friend on each of our sides (plus bridesmaids). It's about what you want, not your mom. I would probably have your brother wear something to match your bridesmaids though if they're wearing a different color than the GM

Just do it, I have a guy and uneven sides. At first the uneven sides bothered me but I had some sense talked into me about just having people you care about up there.

I don't think it's weird if your brother stands on your side. Just have them each walk down separately.

It's totally fine for your brother to stand on your side as a bridesman.

I think even sides is a really strange "hill to die on", so to speak. If something so small and unimportant bothers you so much that it's non-negotiable... idk , it just seems like a superficial obsession to me. Are you going to add someone else since it'll still be uneven?

I'm having a bride's man and FH is having a Groom's maid. The groom's maid will wear the same dress as my bridesmaids maids just in the opposite color. My bride's man will wear the opposite color as the groom's men.
