Brunch Wedding Timeline Advice?

Sierra, on January 7, 2021 at 11:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Any brunch brides have some timeline advice? Not sure how I should lay out my day. The venue I plan to book will give me 12hrs for set up, ceremony, reception and tear down. I have no clue how my day should look.

I would start by choosing a time for the ceremony and work your way from there. Usually it's a half hour for the ceremony (unless you're doing a catholic mass or something), an hour for cocktail hour, and then usually 4-5 hours for the reception. If you're hiring a DJ, they can help a lot with the reception timeline specifics. We really relied on our vendors for help creating our timeline.

I agree with Hannah. I also found that our photographer and hair and makeup artist helped with the timeline as well. So for our wedding our venue set the time the ceremony started, but our photographer was able to tell us that we had to have hair and makeup done by x time in order for her to capture all of the photos we wanted prior to the ceremony. Based on her timeline, the hair and makeup artist created a timeline for when services would start and who would be getting what service at what time so it was a joint effort to determine when things would need to happen in order for the ceremony to start on time. With a brunch wedding, I would say that you should prepare yourself and your girls to wake up rather early depending on how many of you want to have your hair and makeup done if you plan on hiring a professional hair and makeup artist so you might want to consider that when deciding on a start time. I know my brother's ceremony started at two and we went to two different places to have our hair and makeup done. The bride forgot about hair and makeup until about a month before the wedding and by then it was impossible to find a salon that had enough time in their schedule for all of us to go to one place so three of us went to one salon for hair and makeup and we had be there by no later than 8 am in order for us to be back to the church by 12:30 to get dressed. The church was only ten minutes from the salon so this kind of gives you a good idea of just how long it can take for hair and makeup.

I think it all depends on when you want to eat and how long you want your reception to be!

For a brunch wedding I'd make sure to serve food by 2pm at the latest (so work backwards from there). You could also start your reception as early as 11am with a 10am ceremony - but you'd need to consider how early you'll have to wake up to get ready and take pictures!

I'd also think about whether or not you'd like to do a cocktail hour (or mingling and appetizers) or to go straight into the brunch reception. Once you're set on your start time for the reception you can work backwards to figure out your morning timeline, and talk with your photographer and HMUA to see how much time they'll need that morning!
