Budget Friendly Wedding Dress (?)

Hey everyone! Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I have decided early on that I do NOT want to spend a ton of money on a dress that only gets worn once. Hey everyone!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I have decided early on that I do NOT want to spend a ton of money on a dress that only gets worn once. Plus I would like to be a bit more friendly to the environment than in buying a brand new dress. But I don't want to sacrifice quality over cost. I want my wedding to be about the celebration, not a single dress - although that would definitely be a perk! Smiley winking

I know I could potentially find a great dress at thrift stores, but that is a big IF and could run the risk of it not fitting/buyers' remorse, etc.

But I recently found a website in which people sell their wedding dresses at a discount! The website is Nearly Newlywed - I have been browsing moderately and it seems to be legit and potentially fantastic for a bride on a budget (or anyone really).

Do you guys have any suggestions over ways to buy a cheaper dress?

Are there potential pitfalls in this endeavor?

What has been your experience?

Yes! And check out their clearance rack too. If you can find something in your size you can get a more expensive dress a lot cheaper!

Honestly, David’s bridal (if you can find one near you) has a TON of cheap dresses that don’t feel cheap. A large selection of $99 too, and if you sign up for their newsletter (you can immediately unsubscribe) they send you a 15% off coupon. My dress was originally $998, it went on clearance, and with my coupon I paid $380 including tax. It’s doable! Also check resale apps like Letgo and 5miles, and hell maybe even craigslist!

$1000 can get you a very nice new dress. My budget was $400 went over by $250 but I felt like such a princess in my dress. I also went to David’s bridal.

I'm wondering the same thing ...... I'm thinking of having a non traditional type wedding. It'll be at a mini mansion instead of a church and the ceremony and reception will be at the same location so I'm thinking of not having the typical fancy dress but still really stylish and cutesy.

I had to size up at David’s Bridal quite a bit, but many regular clothes now have elastic or stretchy qualities and wedding dresses definitely do not. If you’re ordering online pay close attention to their sizing chart and go by actual measurements (chest, waist...) rather than the number.

Hi. I know PP suggests David’s Bridal as they tend to have good sales and selection, but if you would like to go even cheaper and still have good quality, Lulu’s in online site. I bought my dress from this site actually with discounts. Great return policy if needed as well. Good luck!

I went to a store that sells secondhand dresses, and had a great experience. My dress was nearly a tenth of the original price because there were a few very minor repair things to fix (replace a button, its satin sash was coming a little loose), and they were having a sale the day I bought it. My mom sews, so she’s taking care of those things for me. It fit like a glove, so I don’t need alterations.
If there’s a store like that near you , I would highly recommend going. I would be wary of buying a preowned dress online because you don’t know how much they had it altered and if it will still fit you even if its the right size.
In terms of looking for sizing though, most places recommend looking 2-3 sizes up from your regular size. I’m normally either a 10 or 12 depending on the brand or style of the dress. My dress is a 14, but I was also trying on a lot of 16s.

My budget was $500. I fell in love with a $1200 dress at David’s Bridal but still could not bring myself to pay for that.
I found the exact same dress on Still White, worn once, in my size for $400! So so glad I did this.
I chose Still White because they have a fair buyer protection policy just in case something goes wrong with a seller.

I know there are plenty of trusted sites that people sell their dresses on but I completely forgot the names. I'm sure if you google it will come up. I was dead set on cocomelody and the dress were beautiful and budget friendly. But since my mom was paying for my dress she wanted me to go try them on. But that is a very good site and they have sooooo many dresses

I would definitely look at their size chart and take my measurements to see their recommended size for my body. It's easier to take the dress in than to let it out, so if one measurement puts you in a larger size, go with the larger size. If you're between. Sizes with your measurements, go with the larger size.

I ordered from Cocomelody...with customizations & alterations it came to $800. They have reasonably priced dresses at a great quality and you can order select dresses for home try-on if you can’t make it to one of their stores.

It really boils down to your budget. You can also check out a website called Stillwhite. That's where I got my dress ($1,200) but they have options that are less than $500.

Alexis - I felt the SAME way! I made 3 appointments, one at a reasonably priced bridal shop and 2 at “Upscale Consignment.” I ended up buying my dress at the regular shop on sale for $399.00.

My suggestion is to make a budget and stick to it. I told the woman at the store $1000 was my hard stop budget so she pulled EVERYTHING in that price range (and maybe 1 or 2 that were $1100) and I tried them all on. A catch is the sale rack is usually the last of the dresses so the sizes they have are what is it in stock and it can’t be ordered. If you keep you make your budget clear and go in with an open mind (not set on any one dress) you will find the one you love!! Good luck!

My dress is technically a brides maid's dress, which are much cheaper then a traditional wedding dress. Also I really wanted a blue dress and that was the easiest way to get that.

There are tone of resale site like still white, preowned wedding dress and facebook. It saves money on previously expensive gowns and is eco friendly as new material uses ton of water and gas.

StillWhite.com // PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com // OnceWed.com are other sites that sell new and pre-owned wedding dresses at discounted prices. I prefer the first 2 sites that I listed and almost purchased my dress from Still White. But I waited too long to decide and then it was gone (had to search ALL over the internet to find it again 😆). I’d definitely check those sites out before David’s Bridal because you can get a much higher quality and designer dress for a good price.

I would look at David’s bridal, my friend got a beautiful ball gown there for $600ish! They had cheaper options too. Also Lulus boutique has beautiful gowns, a coworker got a dress from there!
