Budget Wedding/diy Ideas in Nj?

Gabriela, on May 20, 2019 at 11:22 AM Posted in New Jersey Planning 0 7

Hi all Jersey brides! SO in the midst of trying to plan a big, rustic barn wedding, we decided that it's just not for us, we're low-key, no fuss kind of people and would so much rather have a super low budget, almost DIY wedding and instead spend the majority of our money on a big honeymoon. We both LOVE to travel and would have so much more fun taking a nice long trip to Europe than blow all of our money on one day.

Anyone else planning the same thing? We're not sure where to start, but we're thinking of having the ceremony at a local park (central NJ here) but not sure on reception, or how much it would actually cost, if it would be worth it, etc. Any and all recommendations and/or tips would be helpful! TIA Smiley smile

I'm in Central NJ and had sticker shock. I would focus on places like a VFW or Elk's Lodge. You can also try a restaurant depending on how many people. Traditional venues will be a minimum of $100 per person.

I will also add on the suggestions of a VFW or Community Center of sorts. As for the parks, you may wanna check with the county system and see if they have any recommendations. And as someone else said, $100 is about the average pp rate in this area and take into consideration that they may have a minimum requirement. Ours was 125 people minimum

Would Morristown be too far for you? Also, what time of year? I was looking at Frelinghuysen Arboretum and I think they quoted me $275. It might have been $175. I can't remember because it was back in January. What's nice about them is you don't need much in the way of decorations because it's so pretty naturally. I was just going to have bouquets and bouts. We decided to go with free and use my mom's yard which is fully landscaped. But the arboretum was a serious possibility. You can do catered apps there or we were going to go to one of the local restaurants. But we only have 10 people.
