Build your own bouquets?

Sheila, on December 25, 2021 at 12:06 AM Posted in Planning 0 1

Hello! I love flowers. I love all types of flowers. One of the saddest things to me is spending all that money on flowers and people disregarding them at the reception.
I remember one wedding, a girl broke her bouquet and the wedding party kept passing off the broken one whenever they could. By the end of the night, everyone left their bouquets behind. With permission from the bride, I collected them and took the flowers home myself.

Now its my turn to get married and my idea is to have a flower truck come to the hotel/venue while we are getting ready. I'll let the girls pick out flowers for their own bouquet. I'll also have someone on scene to wrap them up right there for everyone.
Then to make everything cohesive, my bouquet will have flowers from each bridesmaids bouquet. I think this idea gives some personality for each bridesmaid and would be something fun to do while we get ready.
The reason I'm posting about it here is to see if anyone has done this before?
Even if not, I'd love some pros and cons for this idea.
(Please avoid all cons if possible, I really love this idea and would prefer to make it work)

    So! A few things!
I’m not exactly connecting your idea with people not leaving their flowers at the reception—is the idea that if the girls pick out their own flowers they’ll take them with them? If so, I don’t think you can count on that. All the times I’ve been a bridesmaid, I’ve left my flowers at the reception because they’re a pain to keep track of during dinner, dancing, etc. Even if I got to pick out my own flowers, I don’t think I’d be more inclined to bring them home.
Do you have a specific flower truck in mind that offers this service exactly? If not, I’d make sure to connect with a few vendor options to make sure this is feasible. As a bridesmaid, and a person who loves flowers, I wouldn’t enjoy this at all. I’d feel pressure to try to pick flowers that I felt went with the wedding vibe, unsure of how to create a balanced bouquet and would probably panic ask the truck vendor to just pick flowers for me.Your bouquet having all the flowers the other girls choose wouldn’t ensure any kind of cohesion at all. If cohesive photos matter to you (I know they don’t matter to everyone), I would think this through more carefully. Most brides tie their decor flowers in with the bridesmaids’ bouquets—again, not necessary, just something to think about.Given that you’ve asked respondents to avoid cons, I think this is something you really want to do regardless of practicality. That’s fine—just know it won’t necessarily be something your bridesmaids love or solve the problem of flowers being left at the venue.
