Bulk flowers?

Has anyone purchased bulk flowers and created the centerpiece arrangements themselves? Is this an awful idea?

I'm planning on doing this, but only using flowers for a few simple bouquets and boutinerres. If we use flowers for centerpieces, we are using bud vases, so no complex arranging and the set up staff can do it. If I wanted more complex centerpieces and such, I would definitely get a florist.

I did all of my flowers myself and ordered from fiftyflowers.com. I was very satisfied with the results. You just have to be realistic about the the fact that it isn't going to look like a florist did them. If you're ok with that, then more power to ya! Watch lots of YouTube tutorials and practice with grocery store flowers, a few times. Know that you'll end up ordering to where the flowers get there about three days prior and that they will all need immediate attention. Cutting stems, placing in water, changing water frequently, and stored in a temperature controlled place that's cool but not cold. We used our bathroom. Then you'll spend most of the day before your wedding putting arrangements together. You'll need help. Good luck!

I'm not doing this for my wedding, but I did participate in this as a BM for someone else. The entire day before was spend cutting and arranging flowers. I personally did NOT love the look although the flowers themselves were pretty but I felt the arrangements weren't put together well. It took literally all day and I felt quite stabby by the end of it.

Basically I veto unless it's something you and/or your bridal party really enjoy.

We did this. We live in LA and got flowers from the LA flower mart. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it. I bought the flowers I planned on using and did a test to see how long they'd last... then I bought mine from the same grower thinking I had done my homework and all would be great.

We assembled them the Thursday night before our Saturday wedding. That's where the first disaster started. LOTS of the roses started just completely falling apart. Literally we would take the flower out of the bunch and the petals would just all fall off!! Luckily I had bought about 75 extra and so we just made each arrangement a few flowers less than we had planned and still ended up with extras. Then the next day more we're dying. OMG. My sweet husband cut down roses in a spare bucket and our coordinator literally was swapping out roses the day of during setup.

It all ended up ok I'm the end but caused a ton of stress and I'm the end I don't feel like it saved us THAT much as the vases (we used jars) and the storage bins I bought to transport them (which was another nightmare) all added up.

I luckily paid a florist for our arch and bouquets and bouts or I would have been seriously screwed. As a bride that did a lot of DIY this was one I would have probably skipped if I knew how hard it was going to be and how little it would save in the end.

I did for my sister's wedding. It was super fun to do with her and my mom. Took us about two evenings to make all the tall and low ones.. plus bouquets! Only pic I have is from here DJ since it was back in 2012!

ETA: I thought you meant fake flowers. I'd be too nervous to do real ones and them not make it. I can't ever keep flowers alive!

Previous experience doing some kind of floral arrangements is the best when doing this! If you are prepared for the time commitment and work, it is a GREAT way to save money! I spend a total of $230 on flowers for the whole wedding, including bouquets, centerpieces, everything! However I had a bridesmaid help do all the arranging. Just a note to give you how florists' prices typically work, they take the cost of materials for the order, and sell it at 3 times the cost of materials, so you could save a significant amount of money!

My mom and aunt both have professional experience doing floral arrangements and have both suggested this option. My FMIL & her sister are also coming out a week in advance because they want to help us (their choice) but. As much as I love the idea of saving money I don't love the idea of putting anyone to work or being super stressed over this. I'd really just love to spend that week/days before enjoying out OOT family as much as we can (obviously there will be stuff to do, but I'm not sure if I'd want to devote so much time to flowers) so I'm really just torn! I think FW & I are gonna sit down this weekend, go over every option and make a decision from there. These flowers have been stressing me out so much that I couldn't sleep last night haha! I'm super grateful for all the advice and tips as well! I browsed fifty flowers and they have some gorgeous flowers!

I started out thinking I was just going to do lanterns and candles. Easy, right? Until my aunt couldn't find the lanterns she said we could use. Then, we thought about ordering flowers in bulk. I went to a few flower appointments and realized I was in over my head. Then I met an awesome flower professional with a similar style to mine. I grabbed all the glass things I could find (spent $11 on the glass things at a rummage sale) and now I can't wait to see our centerpieces!! No two tables will be alike!! Moral of the story: higher a pro, it'll really take off a lot of stress.

I hired a floral arranger who has the couple buy the flowers bulk through Sam's or Costco and then arranges them after they arrive. This saves a lot of money. I'm not doing floral centerpieces though, just bouquets and boutineers/corsages. You could look around see if you can find someone like that.

I'm ordering bulk babies breath and roses for our "centerpieces". We have long tables, so I'm planning on putting 2-3 on a table. I'm planning to order it all from sams club. They'll ship directly to you and if you put it in water, they'll freshen back up. Thankfully my venue is about 10-15 minutes away and we have the venue the day before so we can bring it all in. Here's what I'm going for.
