Bump in the road!

Torrie, on June 1, 2021 at 11:11 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 10
So my FH and I recently found out that we are expecting! We are due in January 2022 and our wedding is in September 2022! We booked the hall already. We have different people saying we need to cut the guest list again but we have it at 85 and originally we had it at 250!! We have all the money set to the side for the wedding already, and we are waiting a few more months before applying for a home loan! I’m not sure if we should cut our guest list down again, I feel it’s already just our immediate family that we see for holidays... opinions on the situation would be greatly appreciated!!

What is the reason behind people telling you to cut your guest list again? If you are planning the wedding you want and can afford it, it doesn't matter what anyone else wants you to do. But if their reasoning is sound, then you should take it into consideration.

They believe that the money we saved for the wedding would be used for the baby that will be arriving in January, possibly thinking we won’t be able to save anymore for anything else.

I would cut it down and just invite peoples you really deal with family and friends and enjoy your day. Congrats on the new bundle of joy

Oh, OK. Well, your finances are definitely not anyone else's business. And only you and your future spouse know whether you can afford to spend that money or should save it. Communicate with each other about what you want and need, and then just move forward with your plans.

Practice telling the unsolicited advice givers that you have everything under control and then change the subject. Repeat as often as necessary.

Big win to this comment. Absolutely spot on.

Weddings, babies, and funerals are the three things I know that make people way over-step in their comments and it's so frustrating. Shut the comments down, 'That's a little presumptuous of you, we've got everything under control thanks. Let's change the subject Smiley smile'

I would not cut it anymore. 250 to 85 is already a huge cut! Just because you are having a baby does not mean you can't have a decent sized wedding.

    Agreed with this!

Also cutting your guest list only does so much to save money. Weddings are an economy of scale type of event - once you have your venue, drastically reducing your guest count saves you money on food and some services but there is still a minimum overhead you are paying regardless. Our venue fee is the same whether or not we have 20 guests or 120 guests - we do save money per head, so the overall cost does go down, but then the per-person cost to host each guest goes up. There is an ideal balance somewhere in the middle there.

Don't cut down the guest list this is coming from a bride who has 8 kids, you'll be fine just save for the baby now and you'll be fine

First of all, Congratulations on your baby!! If you don’t want to cut it down then don’t. You don’t need to listen to others. Do you!
