Bumpy road type songs

Karyn, on September 10, 2016 at 1:27 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24

Idk why our song has been so hard to pick. We met in high school. We've had a bumpy road the last 15 years but always knew we would end up together. I cannot find the right song for life of me. Any suggestions besides "God bless the broken road?" (His mom is doing my wish)

Our song has always been Sister Hazel's "All For You". But that is hard to dance to and has some lyrics other ppl won't understand. We're just looking for a good substitute.

Any thoughts?

No suggestions but why not focus on the positive and pick a song that highlights the highs of your relationship instead of the rough patches?

I agree, focus on your present/future, not just the bumpy past. Even though the past is important because it's what got you here, you want to be thinking of the future when you think of your first dance song.

I guess to me they are one and the same. I don't see it as a bad thing, I see it as a good thing that we actually ended up exactly like we thought despite of everything. Maybe poor choice of words. Didn't mean it to be negative. More like, damn. We made it, just like we thought we would. That's the song I'm looking for.

Bless the broken road doesn't work bc it talks about everyone being these milestones. Both of us have expressed that we never really even took anyone else seriously bc we were always comparing that person to us. I think that's why I'm not really in love with that song.

Maybe "At Last"? it's used a lot, I get that, but there's a reason for it.

Check the inspiration tab on WW. Or search Spotify for wedding songs.

I am actually leaning towards At Last, even though it's over done. I'm just curious if there is a more modern song with the same idea.

"Ready for Anything" by Landon Austin is a good one for showing that you're facing your challenges together.

"You're still the one" by Shania Twain

Looks like we made it, look how far we've come my baby.

They said "I'll bet, they'll never make it" but just look at what's going on... Etc etc

Your first dance song is for you, too, so I honestly wouldn't worry that other people might think it's weird. No one is putting as much thought into the lyrics as you are, so unless it's like...death metal or something, people won't even notice. I don't think I remember this detail from ANY wedding I've been to

"After All" by Cher and Peter Cetera is nice, and "You're Still The One" by Shania Twain as PP said, but I do agree that you should pick a song that focuses on the present and positive relationship you worked so hard to build. Congrats on making it through the rough patches though Smiley smile

God Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts? I don't know how into country you are but it's the first one I thought of.

Listen to "You make it look so easy" by Eric Church. We hit a rough patch one time but I think this sums it all up nicely. We are using it for our first dance.

We're using "This Love" by Ryan Adams because the line "when you're young you run....but come back to what you need" fits us perfectly.

I can't remember the name of it, but it's a country song, something about two sparrows in a hurricane.

The song is about even though there have been bad times that they will go though anything to be together because there is no where else they want to be.

I think you should just pick what you want and notnworry about how people will take lyrics. Indoubt people are critiquing your lyrics during your wedding. Our first dance song is by an acoustic duo, their lyrics don't match up to what you would think for a wedding. BUT we don't care, the band itself has a lot of sentimental moments as we have seen them in concert many times together. And their sound is just amazing ! 'This Wild Life'
