Burgers as a main course!! Yikes!

So thoughts on burgers for the main course at the reception. Tacky much? Thoughts? On a tight budget so thinking outside the box. Ideas are highly welcome and we have a huge smoker 😊

I went to a wedding (outside) that had a caterer come and grill burgers/chicken/hot dogs for kids and it was awesome. It fit with the vibe of the wedding.

    Do not self cater.

You're the bride and groom! If you want burgers, get burgers!! It's you're day! (But also maybe some chicken tenders or salad for guests that don't like burgers/have dietary restrictions) Smiley winking

Burgers would work for me but wouldn't exactly make me want to leap out of my seat and dance after eating something so hearty and filling. I do think that hiring a caterer who specializes in BBQ or grilled food could be awesome and offer more diverse options than just burgers, and probably wouldn't be too expensive, either. Not to mention it would be way safer and less stressful than trying to self-cater.

I would eat a burger at a wedding but I’d probably be a little underwhelmed and I’d be super hesitant if I found out it was self catered.

Self-catering, regardless of any other problems that might arise, sounds just stressful? I considered it for a while but I realized that ultimately it would be much too stressful for me. BUT burgers sound so delightful and fun for a wedding, maybe paired with something a little lighter? Providing of course, you have a bar with different buns and toppings to add some flair. Smiley smile

There's plenty of ways to save on your wedding. Burgers don't sound bad but sliders sounds better. You can have more options like pork, chicken etc. How many people are you having. If it's a small group then everyone pitching in isn't bad if thats all you can do. but if you are doing more than 30 don't do it, it's just draining. There are places that have fair catering prices like for bbq. I found a place for $11pp. I'm only having 25 at my wedding and 5 is my kids and fh. I can't afford more and this way I saved so much.

Bethyonce, I am really interested in the affordable options you mentioned?

We have not set a menu with our caterer however, we would REALLY like to serve burgers at our reception without having a family member slave over a grill.

We will be doing a burger buffet. There is no problem self catering and there is no problem with brides and grooms not wants to spend a ton on food.

Just a thought but we are doing burgers and chicken, cooking on grill the night before and throwing them into slow cooker that following morning. Tastes just like they came right off the grill, well my opinion anyways.

I totally agree that there is nothing against self catering! Since we are on a strict budget, I am always up for ways to save money. I was thinking about having our caterer provide the meats and we would provide all of the sides and condiments. There is already so much that will need to be done the day before and the day of that I'm just not sure if I want to have to worry about the most important items of the meal as well. Thanks for the tip!

Went to a wedding that had Burgers and Hot dogs. Loved it because I hate tradition wedding food. Under cooked steaks/ plain chicken...

I am doing BBQ. Pulled pork, Brisket, Mac cheese, green beans and corn bread. Smiley smile
