Hi all. Just getting into planning for my March 30th wedding. I am really loving the simple rustic look with mason jars, lace and wood etc. Are the burlap chair sashes and the burlap runners worth it? I am on a very tight budget. I'm not very DIY either. Hi all. Just getting into planning for my March 30th wedding. I am really loving the simple rustic look with mason jars, lace and wood etc. Are the burlap chair sashes and the burlap runners worth it? I am on a very tight budget. I'm not very DIY either. My venue provides chair sashes, and overlays to match. Was thinking champagne overlay. But wavering...thoughts either way? Maybe ways to bring in the rustic look otherwise? Thank you all!

The burlap that is sold at Home Depot is a different burlap than what you need. HD sells the burlap for gardening needs. It has a very strong ad odor & much flimsier. You need jute burlap or you will smell an order all night long.

I know this is an older post, so this advise is for anyone who still has an event coming up.

Beware of jute burlap. It constantly sheds, it is an allergen trigger for many (with hardware store burlap being even more so due to minute amounts of mold in the cloth from storage.) and it will catch on any fine fabric around it (satin, silk, even fine spun poly).

If you want the aesthetic of burlap, I would suggest going with a linen burlap (see this article: http://www.freckledlaundry.com/2013/07/jute-burlap-substitute.html). It can cost a bit more, but is so much easier to work with, doesn't have the odor or allergens, and classes everything up a little without sacrificing the rustic feel.
