Burlap Rolls for Runners - Most Cost Effective

Jennifer, on November 8, 2021 at 11:51 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

For those that have purchased Burlap Rolls by the yard, where did you find them and how much? I'm checking online prices and found $5 for 48" wide x 1 yard, but they have outrageous shipping prices. Any tips? Burlap runners are so expensive, too. I don't mind the unfinished look on the runners since these will only be one time use and I think it adds to the rustic charm. The cheapest runners I found were for $80 for 12 12" by 1 yard runners. But, the exact same length and amount, I could get that for $15 online + $25 for shipping if I just bought Burlap Rolls by the yard.

Okay. After more research, it looks like pick-up at Jo-Ann's is best price around me. $4/yard and no shipping cost!

I checked that out, but I really only need 4 yards since they’re 48” wide, but shipping was $25! I found it at Jo-Ann’s though. $4 a yard for 48” wide and no shipping Smiley smile

Damn haha! Okay well since you’ve been through making these runners. Any tips on how to cut keep them from unraveling after you cut them? Some YouTube videos say to use Mod Podge in the edges but just seeing if there were better ways. I do like the unfinished look of the burlap though

Shopping at local stores is always the most economical way for things you are not able to rent. Renting is the cheapest in the long run because you have to factor your time/labor/sanity etc into the price and there is no guarantee that you will be able to recoup money afterwards.

I actually haven't cut them yet but they do shed a TON. My plan was to use some kind of fabric tape for the edges

I found some Burlap Runners at CVLinens for like $3.80 a piece (13” x 108” each) with shipping. It’s more expensive than completely DIYing it, but it was cheaper than what I was quoted for at my rental place and some other online stores. I think I would have spent $20 for those 13 if I completely DIYed, but would have been $80 if I rented/other stores. This one ended up being like $40. I’m happy to pay $20 more to not have to deal with it lol.

I ended up buying them at CVLinens for $3.80 a piece. My rental place quoted me like $6-7 a piece. I won’t be heartbroken even if I ended up just throwing these away after the event since they were cheaper than renting.

That's a pretty good deal all things considered. I've been so mortified with how much it is to rent stuff as opposed to just buying. I'm buying all my linens and my settings will be disposable. At least with buying I can resell at least SOME of them and get back some of that money.

Yup! I bought all my chargers from Dollar Tree. They are easily like 2-5x as much to rent. I bought my a lot of my centerpiece materials from there, too. Even if I can’t resell them at all and just end up donating them all, it’d still be cheaper than renting for some items.
