Burlap Runner Dilema...

Mandy, on September 18, 2016 at 10:29 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

We are using burlap as the runner down the aisle at our wedding. Its an indoor wedding on concrete floors. I dont want anyone to slip on it or have it slide around when walked on, me especially lol. My mom said she thinks theres a type of tape you can put under it to hold it down. Maybe a fabric tape? Any suggestions?

I wouldn't use tape, because it may ruin the floors under it, you could use a rug pad under it.

Why burlap? I don't see that working well

Because we are doing a burlap/lace wedding & thats what I want. No matter what we use its still fabric on a polished concrete floor so we would still need to put something under it.

Rug pad is my suggestion as well.

I would suggest (depending on how long and wide the runner is) laying down yoga mats and the the runner over, it has a grip, shouldn't slip around and gives a little cushion from the cement flooring as well.

The yoga mat is a good idea

The yoga mat is a good idea if it wouldn't take, you know, 20.

Try a rug pad - you might be able to see it under the burlap depending on how wide the mesh is so if you can find one that's either burlap colored or floor colored that's probably your best option

Definitely put yoga mat down first. My friend's wedding was on a polished floor and we put a runner down when decorating and during the rehearsal, several of us almost fell. We had to take it up and she didn't have time to get anything to put in its place, so she had no runner. The yoga mats will be fine but may be expensive if you have a long/wide aisle.

My concern would be the burlap catching on your dress... at least in my head I see that as an issue

I know it's what you want, but it may be best to skip the aisle runner in this instance for the safety of yourself and those that you care about. You can still achieve the burlap and lace theme through other decor. We didn't have an aisle runner and didn't miss it one bit.

There are non-slip mats to put under throw rugs. They are kind of rubbery and a loose 'weave' -- that would probably be safest and wouldn't damage the floor. You see the same type of material as shelf liners for glassware or for kitchen sink liners.

But, having experience with aisle runners on ALL types of surfaces, I recommend not having one. I nearly broke my neck when a runner slipped on a terrazzo floor.

I would suggest looking for more of a natural weave runner that would fit into the burlap theme.
