We've all seen Trash the Dress sessions but anyone seen a Burn the Dress post divorce? I saw this one on Facebook this morning. https://www.facebook.com/PhotosofMerritt/posts/1060719717354088

This is so trashy. Why not donate the dress? What are you going to do with these photos? I just don't understand....

Gross. So many better things you can do with that dress. Such a waste.

Nope. I ended up giving my dress to the Angel Gown program who make tiny little gowns for babies that don't make it home from the hospital. I figured I loved my first husband when I married and for many years we had a great marriage. I wanted to give the gown to a worthy cause because there really was a lot of love left in that old dress.

Now I feel good about that and it was a great step on for moving on.

I was sad when my mom threw her wedding dress away after my parents got divorced. My god mother made it for her. My sister or I would have never been able to fit in it but it would have been nice to have it.

I understand burning the dress if you really hate your ex and want everything gone with the marriage, but maybe ask your kids if they have any sentimental attachment to it?

I get why, but I'd rather sell it and use the money for a vacation or something. Being happy is the best revenge..

This is another reason of why I got a non-wedding wedding dress too. WTF do you do with it after? I'll just keep wearing mine. Smiley xd

I donated mine. Much better use of it! But I guess if you're that bitter....

We are a consumerist people. We waste thousands on other things. This isn't anything different. Personally. Whatever. Who am I to judge someone's healing grieving process.

It's obviously not a super high end dress. So whatever. People sell their cars instead of donating them to charities to. We don't rag on people for that. I see no difference.

Also, from looking at the pic, she may have just been stomping on it. The fire is actually nowhere near it so we can tell ourselves that after that cathartic photo shoot she washed it and donated it. Smiley smile

It is definitely terribly wasteful, but depending on her situation, I can understand it. After experiencing the way my father (the one who raised me) left my mom and I, I would have offered to pour the kerosene and light the match if she still had her wedding dress. Catharsis comes in all shapes and sizes, and I'm not going to judge what somebody does in a time of pain and hurt.
