Burying bourbon bottle

Erin, on May 24, 2017 at 11:33 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

My FH and I are planning to do the southern tradition of burying a bottle of bourbon upside down in hope for good weather. I have read to do it exactly 1 month before the wedding or on a day that has the weather you hope to have. I know this is totally a tradition and somewhat of a superstition but today is exactly one month until our wedding but it is cold and rainy! Should we go with the one month before or the good weather? Have anyone of you done this tradition? I know some think it's silly but who doesn't want good weather on their wedding day even if there is a saying of rain being good luck?

I've never heard of this and I'm not superstitious. Does the bottle have bourbon in it? Will you go back and get it? I can't think of a good reason to discard good liquor :-)

We did it the day before, and it rained that morning. As soon as we were lining up for the ceremony to begin, the rain stopped! It was beautiful the whole day! There was 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms on our wedding day! We buried it upside down in the exact location we said our "I do"s.

I'd do today because the ground is softer!

Oh boy. I think, honestly, a chicken sacrifice is more effective. For the vegans among us, a tofu

    chicken will suffice.

You bury a full, sealed bottle upside down and then dig it up the day of your wedding and share it with your wedding party. Definitely wouldn't waste a bottle of bourbon!

Hmm, that's interesting. I hope it works for you! And if not, hey, at least you got bourbon, yea?

We're going to do it one month before. I just heard about it a few weeks ago and although I don't feel it actually holds any merit, I thought it was a cute thing to do with your wedding party!

I think this sounds fun! Plus it's kind of like buying yourselves a wedding gift to open a month later, and who doesn't want to find a bottle of bourbon??

Or leave it there and the next people to move in and plant something will have a big surprise!

Do it today if you can--also it supposed to be exactly where you say your vows! We got married on a bricked area...so the venue let us bury it near the bushes a few feet away- and guess what?! It was gorgeous all day long (and the weather had called for rain the whole week!)

I'm generally not superstitious but we did partake in some of the fun southern traditions like this one!

We did it a month before and are hoping for good weather! It was such a nice treat to get to visit our venue a month before the wedding and daydream a bit. Smiley smile

I heard about this because my cousin did it for her wedding last September. I'm definitely going to do it. We live in Florida and last year at the end of October hurricane Matthew brought shit tons of rain. I know it's silly but hey anything for good weather lol
