Bustle looks weird

RAG, on October 6, 2017 at 7:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 28

I don't know if I'm just not use to seeing a bustle but I hate how it looks. Is this how it's supposed to be? I guess I'm so in love with my train that I'm sad to see it disappear and don't really want to bustle it. But I understands it's not practical when dancing. Any way I can not have it bustled during the bride and groom dance and the father daughter dance? Also a little worried I have some back fat and didn't have that when I first tried the dress on. I've lost weight but she made it tighter than when I first tried it on so that the dress will hold me in. Just wondering if my concerns are practical or am I overthinking it.

Hi My name is Patrina, Your dress is gorgeous. I was never a fan of bustling a wedding dress after spending so much money. So I agree with you all the way. It fit you beautifully. Have lots of fun on your wedding day. Smiley smile

I have the same problem with my dress. I'm using the strap on the bottom so I can have it up to dance and down the rest of the time. It's your day do it how you want.

I'm not a bustle expert, but it does look a little thrown together, not neatly placed. But that is usually how it goes! I've only seen a couple of bustles that I actually loved.

In terms of your dress fitting- I think it looks fine! With strapless dresses, they need to be very tight up top, which is why I don't like them (on myself), because it pinches the skin. But I think you have nothing to worry about!

ETA: PICTURES- these are two bustles that I actually like.

I think my dress is similar to yours, here is my bustle. Can you ask them to show you different options?

You got lots of great advice here Smiley smile don't be afraid to ask your seamstress to adjust it.

I loved my little train too but loved the bustle as well. The loop on your arm looks so elegant but yur arm gets so tired holding it up.

Pretty dress! I agree with others who've said it looks a little uneven and messy. You still have some time so I'd have them try something else to show you. I loved my train, too but I would've absolutely destroyed my dress had I not bustled it! Mine had a little wrist strap, but the train was so heavy that I never would've been able to just use that all night!

Something is weird with that. It looks really lumpy and uneven. I hate bustles but they are necessary. I'd bring it to someone else to try again.

Honestly, that does not look right at all. my understand is that bustles are suppose to blend in a way with the dress. yours is uneven and kind of thrown on there. I'd 100% ask them to redo it to make it neat and even. good luck!

Try a different bustle. Yours is uneven looking.

Mine had a beaded wrist strap for walking around during photos.

I agree, your bustle looks strange. Could you ask them to try an under-bustle? Where the train is tucked in and attached underneath the skirt, so the overall effect is a smooth hemline all the way around?

That's what was suggested for my a-line gown, with a simple skirt (no lace or beading). I'm no expert, so I don't know whether that's a feasible option with fancier skirts or different silhouettes.

Not my dress, b/c I don't have pics of it bustled yet. But this should give you an idea of the kind of "under bustle" that my seamstress added.

If you have any kind of train you and your guests will be stepping on it all night without a bustle - but I agree with PPs that that bustle looks off - have you considered a different seamstress?

Thank you all for your advice! I paid the place I purchased my dress to do it and I'm just going to see if I can get a different seamstress.

I called the place and they are going to put a hold on the bustle and right now alter everything else.

Definitely get someone to fix it. I've seen bustles done beautifully - like some of the pics on this thread - but that looks slapped together. You could also go with a wrist strap, that's what I'm doing.

Yes it just looks a little thrown together. I have an under bustle. It just looks like the dress has a clean hem. Is your train long?
