Bustle vs no train vs ?

Most dresses have trains unless they are custom made without one. Following the ceremony they are nearly always bustled so that you and guests do not trip over it. There are also the wrist loops but those don’t always support the weight of the skirt and it damages your wrist. What did you decide to go with?

I had my seamstress remove the short train when she was hemming my dress. I wanted full ease of movement and not to worry about tripping over it!

I'm just getting a bustle. The train doesn't have intricate sewing or anything so I never considered a different option. A wrist loop would probably be too heavy because it's satin, so not light enough to carry around.

I decided to have a “sweep train” - it was short enough to not have to bustle. I got a chapel length veil so i appeared to have a train during the ceremony! I took off my veil after the ceremony Smiley smile

I have a cathedral train and veil! I'm getting what I think the seamstress called an over bustle, but it also does have a wrist strap already on the dress.

I had a chapel length train with a cathedral veil. My seamstress put in a five point bustle but no one could figure it out the day of the wedding quickly enough so i just left it down and it was totally fine. It got pretty dirty but it all came out when I had it cleaned/preserved.

I have a tea length dress, no bustle needed Smiley laugh Smiley laugh However, as a seamstress I mostly see gals coming in for bustles. There are so many different types nowadays the brides don't always have to suffer the "bulge at the butt" look anymore.

My dress has a chapel length train. I adore my dress, but it is definitely not what you would consider a traditional bridal gown- the train is really the only thing that makes it feel “bridal”, so I definitely didn’t want to lose the train. I will be wearing the dress, with the train, and a cathedral length veil for the ceremony and group photos after. Then I will be removing the veil and replacing it with a custom headpiece I designed for the remaining pictures of just me and FH, and wearing it along with the dress through dinner. Then I will change into a shortened version of my dress for the party portion of the evening. I really love veils, but also love headpieces. I love trains, but also wanted to be comfortable and be able to move freely when drinking and dancing. It took a lot of thought, but I managed to come up with ways to not have to sacrifice any of those experiences!

I'm having a small train (probably a court or chapel or somewhere in-between) and my seamstress/dress maker is putting in a hidden bustle so that it tucks under and looks like it was always meant to be that way. I know some of the big concerns are being able to tack it up properly and having someone who knows what they are doing to do that. Years ago, I came to my cousin's rescue when none of her bridal party could figure out how to tack hers up.

I'm cheating in that my seamstress/dress maker is my mother and my dress designer is my MOH who is a costume designer for film and TV. Between the two of them, I'm definitely not worried about that.

Bustles I think are nice if they are done right and don't look like the poofy backsides of Cinderella's step sisters on their way to the ball...

I'm going to have the train cut off to make the dress floor length. I'll keep the fabric to experiment with dyeing.
