Bustle vs. wrist loop

Private, on February 29, 2016 at 5:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

Has anyone ever done the wrist loop thing to hold up the train of your gown during your reception? Is this even a thing people do anymore? Is it outdated?

I am not sure that I want my dress bustled but it would be impractical to keep it long all night...

If anyone has done a wrist strap and has a pic, that would be great!

I think a wrist strap would get annoying, and the dress could get heavy. I would definitely want to have free use of both hands/arms without swinging a train around

You're not going to want to do that all night.

That would drive me insane. A wristlet even bothers me after a while...

I fortunately dont have to worry about either one however I have heard a lot of brides say they get tired of holding the dress and then their arm gets sore after awhile

Wrist straps are kinda cheap in my opinion ... it says u didn't pay to have your dress properly busteled... and it's really really heavy!!

Yeah, I would not want to do that. My dress was stepped on so much and it would literally stop me in my tracks. I think having the dress attached my wrist would have been even worse.

I feel like that would be like carrying a purse around all night...nobody wants to do that!

I imagine that it would be way easier to spill food or drinks on your dress if it was attached to your wrist.

You can ask your alterations person to do the bustle underneath the dress - I don't want to deal with a bustle my seamstress suggested this alternative.

A bustle seems way more practical, but IMO a wrist loop looks really elegant and old-fashioned on some dresses. I just wouldn't do it myself because I'm a klutz and I'd probably move my arm and knock all the chafing dishes off the buffet with my skirt or something.

I have both the wrist loop and my bustle is done under my dress so I will pull it at the reception so my hands are free and the dress is out of the way.

I personally don't like the look of bustles at all. My dress isn't very heavy and the train isn't very long either. I plan on doing the wrist loop for dancing and that's about it. It'll stay down the rest of the time.

My bustle, as well as every bustle I've seen, broke and I ended up holding my dress in one arm the whole night. I kind of wish I had just done both for safety's sake.

I'm not a fan of them either, @Erin. Wrist loop for me too (though we're not having dancing).

Thanks everyone! I also do not really like bustles. My dress is not heavy or cumbersome but has a decently long train. I think I could handle having it on my wrist all night, but then again, I don't want to get to that day and have it bugging the crap out of me. Maybe I'll do both so I can have options.

I had a wrist loop for my very light weight chiffon silk sweep train. The sweep to train was one of my favorite things about my dress and I loved being able to slip my hand out of the loop and enjoy my train in a photo and pick it back up to walk.

I am not sure why people like bustles. You purchase a beautiful dress with a lovely train the tack it up under your ass.

My sister's came with a wrist loop, but she had a bustle made. About an hour into the reception it broke the button and she was forced to use the wrist loop. Always consider a backup!

I had both; the wrist loop was useful for photos but by the time we got to the reception I was completely over the train and got my girls to bustle the dress right away. I wouldn't have wanted to carry it on my wrist all night.
