    If you have a lot of tulle a French bustle won't look good and you may even have trouble with the American bustle. I did a mixture of the 2 and had 3 hooks instead of 1 (like the American).

    Mine is going to be a 3 point...I had the lady show me all options though. The 3 point will still show the detail in my train

    I think a lot depends on the fabric and fullness of the skirt. The seamstress should go through the best options with you and let you know how they will look on your dress.

    My skirt has 2 layers of tulle over a layer of satin. I have a 3 pt over bustle on the satin, with 3 pt over bustle on the 1st tulle layer, and then a 7 pt over bustle on the top layer of tulle. It's going to take my MoH a half hour to bustle my gown. Sheesh.

    That's what I'm worried about because it does have two layers of tulle and a lot of the detailing is at the top of the skirt...I was thinking about a pick up look but I'm just not sure and since I'm not familiar with bustles I can't get a visual in my head

    I honestly have no idea how my dress was bustled or at least the terminology to describe it. When I went in for my fitting, I told the seamstress that I didn't want it up around my backside. She had a book of photographs depicting bustles and I basically showed her what I didn't like. She then came up with a gorgeous idea where my dress was basically bustled to the side. Hard to explain. Your seamstress should definitely be able to help you decide and, hopefully, show you some photos or at least play with the dress a bit. Good luck!

    I saw a dress that had 7 layers of tulle over satin and it had a 4 point ballroom bustle.

    @Laudie: Beautiful dress and bustle.

    I just don't want the bump...is that a good word for it?

    I love my bustle! It's just one eye-hook, but I think placement is key. I think it makes my butt look good, seems to fall really pretty, we looked at other bustles before I decided on this one.

    Just ask her for multiple options and to show you how big it'll end up being in the back.

    I am going to go with a three point French bustle. When purchasing my dress the seamstress "bustled" my dress both ways and I liked the 3 point French bustle the best.

    TBH, I hate bustles and I would just rather chop off my train if I could! (But no one will let me *lol*) The bustle is probably my biggest concern in regards to the alterations!

    I think I'm going with an English bustle. I've got a V-neck, a-line gown.

    MrsCountryLace: Mine has about 7 layers of tulle over satin... Maybe I should follow suit and do a 4-point ballroom. I was thinking of a French bustle, but I can imagine it would be hard to put up Smiley smile I have to find my shoes, then the bustling business begins!

    @Serenity: Style wise the bustle is my biggest concern...Cost wise is my hem...part of the reason for the 2 slips I'll be wearing...I'm hoping I won't have to hem it

    Just posted this yesterday on another post. lots of bustle questions this week! first pic is the train, second pic is the bustle. it is a 7 point bustle. i have no idea what american or ball gown style means. i just know that french is under. my dress would totally look like a giant diaper with a french bustle. it's best to have your seamstress show you the options (and bring someone with you for opinions)
