Hi ladies! Fairly new to Wedding Wire. I'm hoping to get some advice on necklines, silhouettes, etc. for my large bust. While I'm hoping to lose some pounds before the big day, my 42F chest may go down to a DD at most! Any tips or suggestions for me before I start dress shopping?

I'm a 36DD and my dress has off shoulder straps, deep v/sweetheart (I think it combines both), and an illusion back. Alterations will have it fitting perfectly, I personally preferred straps because I feel really self conscious and exposed in strapless. I did try on strapless dress with a corset and they held up perfectly, I was told that as long as it's sized properly and alterations does a good job, a strapless corset will indeed hold up.

A good consultant is also a very important key.

I'm a 42G, I will be wearing a sweetheart strapless gown. Finding the right bra was harder then finding the right dress, I bought and returned 5 before I found the right one. Like someone else mentioned don't buy a dress hoping you lose weight. Try on different styles and be open minded.

    32DDD/F

    It's halter-ish, with a double keyhole back.

I was not looking to go strapless but the back of my dress was low/transparent so I had a bustier similar to what MrsK&D posted pinned into the dress.....I'm between a C and a D cup but the seamstress fitted me into a much smaller size just to keep my chest in there haha, thank God for Spanx, tooooo! Good luck, gorgeous dresses posted, ladies!

I would avoid halter unless you want ultra cleavage all night long.

Strapless is perfectly fine as long as you get supportive undergarments and have it altered properly (meaning, right in the ribcage, NOT the bustline). The support comes from the ribcage band, and therefore strapless dresses tend to slip when a person has the dress altered improperly. Most women think it needs to be tight at the bust, and then deal with pulling up the dress all night. A properly fitting strapless should JUST SLIGHTLY restrict breathing, because it is very fitted to the ribcage.

I wear a 36K in UK sizing / 36P in US, and I have a strapless dress that stays up very well.

I'm a 34 DDD/F and my dress is strapless and sweetheart. I was really worried I wouldn't be able to do that neckline, but wedding dresses have so much support built in. Especially once a dress is tailored to fit with cups sewn in, you should be fine! Mine actually ended up minimizing my chest.

Your consultant will be able to explain more and help you find the perfect dress. Smiley smile

32G here and while my dress hasn't come in yet, I got one with straps and sweetheart neckline. I'll be having cups sewn in so I'm going braless! The consultant actually recommended it even though I'm a busty girl. Will post a photo from the day i said yes here shortly.

I also used special occasion fashion tape inside my bra, and then fashion taped my bra to my dress. Not only did it not budge all night due to the fact that everything fit correctly, but that tape was like super glue!!! There was NO pulling the dress up.

Sweetheart neckline worked for me. I went a size up to get full coverage and it was minor alterations.

@Ekab: Thank you! ANYONE can go strapless, IF they wear the right undergarments and have it altered correctly. If you're busty, that means ordering the dress for your bust measurement, unless hips are larger.

Don't go strapless I'm a 42 DD and all the strapless dresses annoyed me .

Like stated yes you can get it altered perfectly etc , but for myself who is so large on top and my waist is tiny the dress could not be altered in a way that would work . A lot depends on your body type desired look etc

One last thing to consider and to ask your consultant--some designers will 'open up the cup' and do a custom change for an add-on fee. definitely worth asking, it's a more common custom change these days and helps to make the cup area of the dress fit better for larger breasted women.

I never thought I would end up in a strapless dress because my mom kept insisting I needed sleeves. Here's the thing I didn't look good in dresses with sleeves, so I went with the silhouette that was right for my body. Try on various styles get the right undergarments and you will be a gorgeous (and comfortable) bride!
