Buttercream frosting alternative

Futuremrsconroy, on June 21, 2019 at 7:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
We had our cake tasting a few months back and FH seemed happy, but has recently expressed that he doesn’t love the buttercream frosting. Is there something else I can ask the bakery to do. Like just a regular vanilla frosting like you’d get from a can?! Haha

You can do cream cheese frosting. A decorator friend of mine suggested mixing the buttercream and cream cheese icing together. So that’s an option too.

Can they do a different variation of buttercream? I hate American buttercream b/c it’s oily and very sweet. My baker I found only does Swiss Meringue buttercream (my fav!!) it’s silky and smooth mouthfeel and not too sweet, even my buttercream hating FFIL LOVED it and ate the three icing samples we brought home by the spoonfuls.

You can do whipping cream! Its exactly how it sounds. Its not exactly the same as whip cream but its very light and tasty. MIL is a baker and she only uses whipping cream for her cakes.

Daughter has food issues related to different textures. Many of the wedding bakeries near us do a whipped frosting that she couldn't stomach because, for her, it's "too slimy." She also does NOT like fondant, at all.... However, she found a small cupcake bakery (that also does wedding cakes) that was willing to work with her on a custom-mixed buttercream frosting that was neither too slimy nor too sweet. I'd call around -- especially to smaller bakeries -- and talk with them about possible options. (Also, as a bonus, daughter's custom cake, delivered, was less than $4 a slice, where most other bakeries in our area were in the $6-10 range....) Good luck!

We are doing cream cheese frosting but there is this frosting called a vanilla flour frosting that is similar to a buttercream but not as sweet. I liked it as well! Try that if they can make it!
