Me and you both! I had an awesome consultant and she told me some horror stories of brides trying on dresses they couldn't afford and ended up sobbing, taking out loans or begging their friends/family for the money. That was enough to deter me from anything above my budget.

I tried on a lot of evening gowns on at various stores to see what styles I liked and then purchased my gown from Amazon.

I ordered online from lalamira.com. I felt the same as you. I actually refused to pay thousands on a dress for 1 day, although it was an exciting and special day. I used the size chart online and the dress fit perfect (after hemming).

So what you described was my exact plan. I was going into David’s Bridal to look and see how a low back dress would fit, and also just to browse their clearance, but I had 2 different dresses picked out on Azazie that I loved. But as fate would have it I found the most amazing dress on DB’s $99 rack, marked down from $500 and I walked out with my dress that day.

Poshmark or Still White are great options for buying designer dress for cheap online. Start with Poshmark, you’ll find some surprising results.

I bought mine on StillWhite for $388 with shipping. The dress retailed for over $1300 new.

I found that most of the listings have measurements listed and the seller discloses in the listing any alterations they had done. My advice is to focus on listings that have photos of the bride wearing the dress and not just stock photos from a retail site. Also, I would focus on dresses that have been dry cleaned already so you don't have to pay for that when you receive it.

You can message the seller and ask questions and negotiate price.

I had a really great experience and saved a ton of money!

Yes! Wedding dresses run very small so it's important to have accurate body measurements and to look at the sizing guides. The dress I ordered was listed at a 14, but normally I would be wearing an 8-10.

Also, shop for your largest measurement because the others can be taken in. Mine is my bust so I made sure the dress was large enough for my bust and will need to have waist and hips taken in a bit.

Lots of people have given wonderful suggestions, but I was literally in the same boat as you so I thought I’d give my 2 cents also 😬 I also did not want to spend hundreds and hundreds on a dress I’d wear for only a day! I ended up doing the try-at-home program through Azazie (mainly because I was starting to dress shop right at the start of all this COVID-19 business, so I couldn’t shop in person). They only let you try 3 dresses at a time, so I made sure to pick 3 different silhouettes and 3 different necklines to pick and choose what features I liked about each dress, and find one online based on that. I ended up falling in love with one of the ones sent to me! I knew I loved it when I was looking at other dresses to try on and I just kept looking for dresses that had all the same features as the one I had already tried on 🙄😆 I just bought my dress a few days ago for ~$350. They offer custom sizing for free, and they reimburse you for any alterations done since it’s a custom-sized dress (up to $75, I believe). I very much recommend them for wedding dresses 😁

My wedding is in July 2021. I wanted my dresses earlier since Covid-19 is affecting most. businesses right now, I wanted to secure having time to get alterations on them before the wedding.

I recommend finding your dress and then searching it up on StillWhite, Pre owned wedding dresses ( are mostly brand new and some never used!) and the prices are so much more cheaper! I got my $3800 dress for only $615 and it included shipping from Australia and it came from the Milla Nova Collection. I was super nervous ordering my bridal gown online. But after receiving my dream dress it was everything I hoped for. I was truly blessed by one of the brides on StillWhite. Best of Luck!

One side note that I do wish I could've had that bridal experience at the salon and have my entourage there for support. My family has been so supportive and they will be decorating my living room so that I can have my day of revealing both of my dresses once the other one arrives for them here at home (Mom & Sisters).

Honestly STILL WHITE AND LACE BRIDAL SAVED ME SO MUCH MONEY that I get to save and invest some on our wedding. I am extremely happy because originally I was looking into spending close to $8K-9K on both my wedding dresses and now I only spend around $3k for both with alterations. If I were to just have kept my reception dress it would've been less than $800 with the dry cleaning process to make sure its steamed to perfection for the big day. I have also bought my engagement dress for only $250 and it was originally $1,950. Good luck girly there are so many options to go. Find your dress, designer, and style and just start searching your options and I'm sure you will find your dress

Try them on in the bridal shops. Find your style. Then go to the big discount dress events they have.
