Buy or Rent

Opinions on buying or just renting your wedding dress? I would be willing to do either one but apparently several of my family and friends think renting a wedding dress and not keeping it wrapped in the closet for years later is just wrong.

I think do whatever you feel is best. If you don't think you'd want to keep it and you can find one you like for rent, go for it! My only hesitation would be the fit. But hey, if men can rent tuxes!

Agree with PP, definitely do what you feel is best and don't let the opinions of others get to you if there is one you want to do over the other. You could always buy and resell after the wedding so it isn't sitting in your closet.

    I think it's a personal preference.

Is there a reason you'd prefer renting over buying?

If I’m being honest, I’m indifferent to either option. If I have to buy the perfect one then I will, but also if I can get away with renting one then I’d be fine with that too. Keeping it isn’t all that important to me only because I know that I won’t ever wear it again.

It is your dress, your decision and doesn’t impact your friends/family in any way. If you don’t care about keeping it and you find a rental that works then go for it. Lots of brides are now reselling their dresses online because they don’t want to keep them hanging in a closet never to be worn again. I don’t think many women nowadays think their child is going to one day wear their dress.

    Then I'd say rent!

If your family's opinion is important enough you could buy one and then resell. I'll also say that you could possibly get a sample sale dress or a lowkey dress (check out Lulus) for as much as some are charging for rentals. Just be careful not to let anybody push you into going over-budget because of their preferences.

I was thinking the same thing but I fine some dresses that are cheaper then renting one. Good luck

I’m renting which is actually pretty common in my culture considering we go through 2-3 outfit changes for weddings. It saves money (most of the time unless you get the dress on sale) and the store uses stock sizes and tailor to you so it fits you! It’s also a plus for me because I don’t plan on ever wearing it again. I don’t want it taking up space in my closet.
