Buy the Bride a Drink trend - fun or tacky?

Brooke, on March 11, 2023 at 12:04 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 9
Just genuinely interested in people's opinions on this one: the “Buy the Bride a drink” trend.
I’ve seen this on the back of cars - you know where you can write the Venmo or PayPal on a window for strangers to send money to buy the bride a drink for her bachelorette.
Now just saw a girl share in a Facebook bride forum that she had made one for her Facebook and Instagram! She made a whole image with her and her Venmo QR code. Another bride in the comments said “omg this is so great and it works! I made $300 posting mine!”I personally think it’s really tacky to ask people for money like that. What are all your opinions?

Extremely inappropriate and you are asking for your safety and finances to be hijacked.

Pre-Covid, when bachelorette parties were a local outing the night before the wedding and cost almost nothing, it was common for the group to go to a bar and patrons there would buy the bride a drink without batting an eye. The trend of hashtags is a huge safety violation in addition to being an etiquette violation for making people unnecessarily uncomfortable.

Unless it’s a true tragedy or there is extreme and legitimate need it’s always crass and inappropriate to ask for money from strangers.

I’ve seen the “buy the bachelorette a drink” thing on the back window of an SUV full of girls obviously celebrating a bachelorette party. I thought it was cute & fun and I totally contributed to it. I think doing this for one night only during the bachelorette party is totally fine. However, doing it for days, weeks, months at a time is super inappropriate. And posting it on your Facebook and Insta is pretty cringey.

I hadn’t even considered the safety aspect but you are absolutely correct!
Also absolutely that it is totally different if a friendly stranger sees a Bachlorette party at a bar and buys them a drink.

    I agree!
I’m not even asking my *friends* to buy any food or drink for me on my bachelorette, so I cannot imagine feeling comfortable publicly asking on social media.

Besides the privacy issue of sharing your Venmo info, I do feel a bit more lenient on the car one. I don’t personally like it but I can also understand it’s all just for fun.
The social media one was just too much for me to understand haha

I've participated in bachelorette weekend where we posted on Facebook the venmo codes, and out of state relatives, parents, and brothers gave some money for drinks. We went to nashville and there were tons of bachelor party's that wanted to buy us drinks, but since we got there the venmod the MOH $100 for drinks for us. I think it's fun and see no problem. We created a separate venmo just for the evening/weekend.

What's so scary about someone having a venmo name?

I don't know, I don't really have an issue with it. I wouldn't really say anyone is "asking" for anything, it's just a venmo posted with a reason. Everyone who sees it isn't being directly asked anything and can make the choice themselves if they want to put a few bucks in or not. I don't think I'd have ever done it for myself, but I wouldn't feel offended or appalled if I saw one, either

The one on the back of the car could be sort of fun. Seeing if anyone just does it for the fun of doing the unexpected.
