Buyers Remorse - I don't love my wedding dress! HELP

Cnorych, on January 17, 2012 at 12:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

Of course I got suckered in at Kleinfeld and bought a dress on Saturday after promising myself I was just going for the experience. Now, I am having second thoughts on my dress!!

This is my dress: http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=A3443 and I didn't really want an A-line dress wanted more of a trumpet or mermaid and now I think it is too princess-y. HELP! Am I just freaking out because this is such a big purchase or should I cancel my order? I am already going to go back and try on the dress again but is this common? I am legitimately freaking out. Smiley sad

I also attached 2 photos of me in the dress.. please let me know what you think and how best to deal..

I think you look stunning in this dress!!! But, if you don't love it and don't think it's the one, you should look for something you DO love and think is the one.

When I went to try on dresses I had no intentions of even trying on the dress that I fell in love with. I hate the princess-y type dresses, but once I had it on (my ma made me try it), I cried almost immediately. I knew it was the one for me and I look dang good in it too. Lol.

The dress is beautiful. I would not do anything until you have it back on. I knew mine was the one because I loved the way I looked in it, not just the dress but then started thinking I might like a different one better. When I went back I loved the original and knew it was the one all over....by the way, it was everything I told the salesperson I didn't want and she encouraged me to just try it...it was perfect. Good luck.

It's gorgeous on you! I love your pic with the owner! What was the Kleinfeld's experience like....all it's cracked up to be?

I think you look amazing. But it's really up to you and how you feel. I bought the second dress I tried on after thinking about it for a week, and that was almost a year out from my wedding. I think it was a little too early...when you have too much time to think about something it's really easy to second-guess.

Thanks @Ashley! That is similar to this dress I didn't like it on the hanger and after hearing everyone else say how much they liked it I was convinced.. I loved the first dress I tried on but it was way over my budget -

@Spring Bride thanks! I'm going to try to go back this week - I really hope that I love it when no one else is around :/ At least I know its not just me that needs to go back the second time to be sure.

    thanks!

Ah, it's so beautiful! But ultimately, it's up to you Miss! I purchased a dress too, and when I brought it home I started having doubts. I looked at pictures of myself in the dress and it just wasn't me.. you have to feel good in it! Try it on a few more times over the next week and see how you feel about it each time. You could just feel like you've shorted your experience, but sometimes you do just find THE dress right away Smiley smile

Thanks so much everyone - and @Kris S. my wedding is about 15 months away too so its good to know you had a similar early-purchase experience. I just need to go back, (hopefully) love it and stop looking at any other dresses if I love it again.

The experience there was wonderful - I felt like a princess they were so accommodating!! I emailed the owner earlier today about my second thoughts and he is being so flexible with my coming back in this week to make any changes if necessary. I do also know that some people have had awful experiences (my cousin had a not so great time there) but I must have went on a great day. Here's hoping my second time this week will be a good one too..

I am also freaking out at the cost.. its a flat rate of $695 for alterations.. I may need to not get it altered there and shop around for a seamstress over the next year or so to keep the costs a bit lower..

I think it's a gorgeous dress & you look amazing in it Smiley smile. If I have learned anything from the hours of watching shows about buying wedding dresses on TLC, it's that the 1st one is almost always the right one. Smiley smile

Definitely look around for alterations. I know that in Boston and DC, there are independent seamstresses who get rave reviews from everyone who uses them, yet have much more reasonable rates than the salons. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with who is good in Jersey, but I suspect there is someone.

I am kinda weird about dresses. i never try an abundance on. im not really sure why you would go try on dresses with the intent of not buying one. that seems like setting yourself up for disappointment, and you were also wasting that consultants time. i mean that is after all how she makes her livings.

but regardless, i only tried on 6 dress on my first time shopping, and picked one out within an hour. i didnt cry, but i loved how it looked on me and it was super flattering, it wasnt what i thought i was going to like, but it ended up being the one.

i have had mixed feelings about it since then, but everytime i look at it, i just love it. i thought maybe i should have tried on more dresses, maybe i should have looked at a different place? but overall, i am happy with my decision.

and girlfriend, you look amazeballs in that dress! i say learn to love it! lol

I think the dress looks amazing on you! I would definitely try it on again and see how you feel. I doubted myself a little after buying my dress but my dress came in only 2 weeks after I ordered it and when I tried it on again, I fell in love with it all over again. And even after that, I've doubted myself a little...but then every time I look at the pictures of me wearing it, I know I made the right decision. I think it's natural to second guess such a big decision like this. It's something a lot of us have dreamed about for most of our lives and we want it to be perfect. Let us know what you decide!

Im second guessing too, but I think its just us being nervous, at least Im hoping (but then again I dont have my dress in the closet, maybe when I can look at it when I need the reassurance it will be better...next month!)

You look lovely. The dress is pretty. Once you are "jacked up" you will realize you made the right choice.

If this is a Maggie dress, you can order it anywhere. My daughter had a bad experience at Kleinfelds but we went because of their wonderful alterations, hoping to find the dress there. (we didn't) If you plan to get the alterations somewhere else, a suggestion would be to look around locally for that dress.

You look beautiful in it!!! I agree with everyone else, go back and try it on a few more times to see how you feel in it. If you're not "wow'd" when you put it on again then it may not be the dress.

And yes no more shopping around for other dresses! I hate when I watch the show Say Yes to the Dress- it makes me want to go dress shopping all over again and I have dress regret. But then when I look at pictures of myself in the dress I bought, I know I made the right decision.

I agree with the ladies here, you look FABULOUS in the dress!!

From my experience, I bought the dress that I loved the most and I almost cried in it. After look at more dresses in magazines and stuff, I remember a few days/weeks later I had doubts about my dress and telling my MOH that I hope I still love my dress. When the dress came in, I was quickly reassured that my dress was the one!

    I shared all that to say, try on the dress again [;

I think the dress looks amazing, but you also have over a year until your wedding. You have more than enough time to change your mind and find a new one. (:

Your dress is absolutely beautiful!!! You look stunning in it. I think it looks romantic and elegant. I'm not a fan of the poofy ones with all of the pick ups. Your dress is gorgeous!
