Buying a house & planning a wedding!

Amanda, on October 17, 2019 at 7:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 21
Is anyone else as crazy as me to be trying to buy a house AND plan a wedding-not to mention move into the home 1-2 months before the wedding?! We have just over a year left and we have just started talking to my boss (a loan officer) about looking into buying a home. Payments wouldn't start till after the wedding and the reason for moving in before is so we can use it for the rehersal dinner, a place for the bridal party to stay a few days before, spot for the bachelor/ette party, OOT guests, etc. We were going to rent an AirBnB for the few days before for these purposes but it would cost around $1000 so this saves that plus it was a goal for us from the beginning to move out of my parents after the wedding. Anyone else doing both?!

It was 26 years ago but we met, got engaged, bought a house, and got married in less than 6 months. We moved in 3 weeks before the wedding and I was the Loan Officer on the deal. It can be done!

YEP!!!! My fiance is looking for a house for us right now. Our wedding is not until 2021 but there is still a lot of planning on our future and I'm already overwhelmed thinking about maintaining a house and saving / planning for a wedding at the same time!

I can’t imagine haha. The stress of house buying was enough for me but we used a USDA home loan and were battling the government shutdown. I’m sure in normal circumstances it wouldn’t be so bad.

We are not planning to buy a house before the wedding, but FH keeps looking at houses for sale lol. I personally wanted to buy a home first and then we plan the wedding but he thought it would be best to be married first.

We just got married in July and started looking for homes a month ago. I can’t imagine how stressed I would’ve been trying to plan a wedding at the same time. It would’ve also been very difficult financially considering down payment, closing costs, furnishing a home, pre-paying property taxes, and just making sure the mortgage won’t make us house poor (our lender approved us for more than we’re comfortable with and it took almost putting an offer in on a house for us to realize it).

Thats def one reason we are waiting to have payments start till after the wedding. Esp because we will be saving every month for the wedding up until the month of the wedding!

Oh yeah they'll def try to get the most from you but we know what we can afford already too which will help! It will be a lot but worth it in the end. I'm doing everything I can right now to get as much done as possible as early as possible too so its not all at once! Congrats on your wedding and soon to be home!

We were in the process of buying our house when my FH proposed. So somewhat. Honestly that’s why we ended up with a longer engagement because it was just too many finances at once. But it’s totally doable.

Yes, it for sure can be done!!! Right after we got engaged in January 2019, we sold our first house, moved to Minnesota from Florida, bought a house, and just recently closed on a rental property!!! It was pretty stressful, but we're all settled now! I'm glad I can primarily focus on the wedding now that's coming up in 86 days!!!! Good luck, you can do it!!!

YES! Currently in the middle of packing up our whole
house right now we move into our new home in two weeks and we will be relocating to a new city about two hours away and in the middle of planning a wedding and we have our venue food tasting the weekend we move in so we have to drive back down. TALK ABOUT STRESSFUL! But couldn’t be more thankful that this house process is almost done all prayers needed

We got engaged December 2017, bought a house July 2018, and got married July 2019. So we had awhile to move in, but we did have to do a TON of renovations (and are still renovating the house) because it's a total fixer upper in every sense of the word. So in addition to two full-time jobs, vacations, hunting, etc., it was a lot to have renovations & wedding planning for sure.

ME!!! We're building a house so we've had a lot of meetings and whatnot.

It can be done! Just stay organized and don't sweat the small stuff.
