Buying a pre-owned wedding gown international shipping/fees

Marjorie, on September 3, 2021 at 9:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Hi!

I fell in love with a dress I found on Stillwhite. I am in the USA and the dress is in Australia. I am concerned about import fees and costs. Has anyone purchased a gown internationally and can explain their experience?

My dress was custom made overseas and I didn't have any import fees. The seller shipped through DHL and it was super fast and easy

When I was looking at dresses on StillWhite, the shipping fees for Australia to my location was about $300 because of the weight of the dress.

Oh wow, that's what I am afraid of. That's a lot more money to consider for a preowned dress. Thanks for the info!

Consider how big the gown is. A ballgown is going significantly more expensive than a slinky dress. It can range from $300+ I’d say.

No experience with a wedding gown, but we have family in AU and shipping can be incredibly expensive and very unreliable. Working with a retailer might be different, but from a private party, I'd be very concerned/cautious about the realities of shipping. (FWIW I just sent a couple of very lightweight newborn baby outfits (less than 1 pound in a padded envelope) for a baby expected at Christmas and it was around $40 for surface shipping -- if I'm LUCKY it will be there before the baby's due in 3 months.)
