Buying my dress.

Jessica, on October 7, 2019 at 12:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
I am about a year and seven months out for my wedding. Is it too soon to start shopping for, or purchase a dress?

It's probably a little early. If you are someone whose weight doesn't fluctuate a lot AND you are really set on your wedding style already it might be okay. We are getting married March 2021 and I plan to start shopping in January, so that will be 1 year and 2 months out.

I was a year and 3 months out. My suggestion is if you have something you know you want, go try it on because designers discontinue things all the time. If you are the type of person who will have dress regret because something new catches your eye, wait until you're at least a year out. New dresses take around 6 to 8 months to be made and come in and then there are fittings. You can also always go to sample sales or trunk shows to catch a deal.

I started looking about 18 months out. It’s not too early. Especially because some places take 6 to 8 months for the dress to be made and ordered. Especially if you are having a hard time finding a dress in the style you want. I’ve been looking every weekend for two months with no luck.

I found my dream dress, ordered it and received it when i was still over a year out. Dresses get discontinued all the time. Some that i really liked weren't available anymore when i was looking so when i found one i fell in love with I scooped it up. I still see dresses that i like on message boards but none of them compare to my dress. I don't actively look on bridal boutique sites anymore and honestly it is nice to have that expense out of the way so i know how much we have left in our budget.

I don't think its too early to browse online like Melle suggested. However, I do think it might be too early to purchase a dress. My weight fluctuates easily. So, purchasing something that far in advanced wouldn't work for me. 1 year and seven months out and you might see a different dress that you feel is it. So, I would definitely at least wait 13-14 months out before considering that big of a purchase.

My only advice if you start looking now is to make sure you 100% love it and if you do find "The one" stop looking at wedding dresses right then. My wedding is next month and I have had my dress since January of 2018 but I absolutely love my dress as much today as I did the day I bought it.

I bought my dress a year ahead so I'd have plenty of time to make payments on it since I'm paying for my dress...it can take up to 8mths to come in so I would start looking then get serious around the year mark

My dress was the first thing we bought for the wedding. I found it 15 months before the wedding, it took 5 months to be made and then I started alterations 2 months before the wedding since there’s a lot of lace. It took her a month for the first round of alterations and then I picked up my dress two weeks before the wedding and we’ re getting married next weekend.
