Buying suit question

Chelsea, on May 25, 2021 at 1:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hi,

The guys are buying suits for the wedding at a local shop. How far out did they get the suits and then do alternations? Im not gonna lie getting kinda worried. The guys went in March to get measured. I called a month ago to make sure everyone went in and put deposits down and ordered. The guy told me to kinda calm down and that 3 out of 10 are on back order and that midnight navy is a popular color but will come in....

Lol now im 45 days out and haven't heard anything. If I don't at 30 days was thinking about going in to see whats going on? Is this normal?

I think H ordered his custom suit 2-3 months before our wedding. It came in about 3 weeks before and needed minor tailoring on the pants. He picked it up about a week before our wedding. I think you can call and ask again, but did they not give the guys an expected delivery date?

Okay, I will probably call around 30 days because It kind of cutting it close for tailoring if the 3 are still on backorder. None of them got a delivery date.. This place kind of seems unorganized. The first time shopping around it was okay but recently the owner died so it seems kind of unorganized but the others working it still??

My FH brother is 2 hours away and came in and was measured then when my FH returned with the last guy he said he lost that brothers measurements.

Then the time before that told my FH that his wedding already passed....like no? lol

I would probably stay on them in that case. You don’t want to get to a week out and realize that 3 of the guys won’t even have suits.

I would call every two weeks unless they gave you a specific date that the suits will arrive.

This isn't something we had to deal with for our wedding because it was super casual and the guys just wore black pants and a red button-up. Didn't even need to be slacks - my husband just wore the pair of Dickies he's owned for a couple of years! However.... he's going to be a groomsman for a wedding on 6.5.2021 and they haven't picked up their suits for that yet. The guys were measured over a year ago because the wedding was originally supposed to be 6.6.2020 but got postponed due to COVID. The groom just said they're coming in "closer to the date" when my husband asked a couple of days ago.... I'm not even the one wearing the suit and I'm getting anxiety over it! But yes, as annoying and anxiety-inducing as it is, it's also normal.

Menswear does not take nearly as long to order or tailor as it does to get dresses for the ladies. Our guys got custom suits from Indochino (which states suits take about 2-3 weeks to come in) and got them right around the time they were promised (and this was early Covid, when products manufactured in China were getting delayed but the USA wasn't generally concerned yet). The shop probably has a good sense of how long things take and I would not worry too much if they indicate that everything is under control.

When did you last speak with someone? If recently, I would check in again about 30 days out for an update.
