Buying tablecloths? I have a little bit of advice...

Sara, on March 11, 2013 at 10:39 AM Posted in Style and Décor 2 15

I purchased tablecloths from Smartyhadaparty.com. You get a discount when you buy a case of 24, which is exactly what I needed in rounds. When purchasing, the tablecloths have some pretty bad fold creases. See first picture.

We looked online to research the best way to get the creases out. One person claimed to have success just laying the tablecloths flat for a few days, so we put one one the table to see what would happen. All that happened was that it got full of cat hair.

What worked for us: we washed them (we can fit 3 120" tablecloths at a time) in hot water them put them in the dryer on the permanent press setting (very important to use this setting!). While drying, we check on them a few times to keep them from getting twisted together. (cont)

As soon as the dryer is done, we spread them flat on the bed to cool. We have to keep the cats out of the bedroom to limit the amount of cat hair that gets on them. The creases are most of the way out at this time. Once they are cool, we roll them up. Since the tablecloths are so big, it takes both FH and I to do it decently. We then roll up the rolled up tablecloth (make sense? – see picture). I then tie it together (I have been using left-over gift wrapping ribbon works, but any sort of string works) to keep it from coming loose while storing and eventually transporting to the venue.

I have not unrolled the tablecloths to see what they look like, but I don’t think there will be a problem. I have had to wash and dry 2 or 3 of them twice since they were still a bit wrinkly the first time, but overall the process is going smoothly. It is not quite as smooth as an iron would get it, but the time savings is well worth it!

    Edited to fix side-ways pictures!

Wow that's awesome! Great advice, that's one thing we kept in mind when purchasing vs renting is the hassle of ironing/cleaning them! We opted for runners Smiley winking

LOVE THE CAT! That's exactly what would happen at my house, too. I have 4 cats and three (blind and deaf) dogs.

Thanks RayRay & Jenny. That is FH's cat. My cat is good and doesn't get on the table.

This is brilliant. I was trying to figure out how to do this and the best I came up with is rolling them up around pool noodles and putting plastic over them. This is much more portable!

Are you rolling one tablecloth at a time, or do you have several tablecloths in each roll?

I'll keep this in mind thank you!!!

My cats get on the table I shoo them off and they could care less lol. I had one try to get on the bookcase today and only make it halfway up, he rammed his body into it and fell into a giant vase at the side of it got up and ran off lol.

Jennifer - we are rolling them one at a time. FH and I discussed doing multiple, but worry that it could add wrinkles.

Hey Sara! I was just wondering how the table cloths looked when you unrolled them? Would you recommend this method?

And I see that your wedding is this weekend -- congratulations in advance!
