Buying wedding dresses online...

April, on April 24, 2019 at 1:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to get some opinions on whether or not one should buy a wedding dress online. I have seen so many nice ones on JJsHouse and CocoMelody, but I am afraid of wasting money on something that will look like a rag when it comes in. Has anyone had a good experience buying a wedding dress online?

What about buying a veil online, particularly Amazon? I had seen some really nice ones on there and am tempted to risk it.

Thank you!

April

I bought my dress on Amazon and loved it! I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a dress that I was going to wear once. I also bought a veil off of eBay but it was a pre-owned David’s Bridal veil.

Return policy and customer service reviews are important . Jjshouse is a knockoff site so it’s really hit or miss — works for some, others show up miss-sized and bad quality, and from what I’ve heard, has horrible customer service and is unlikely to accept an easy return and refund you. No good. Cocomelody is a reputable site (they even have a physical store in LA). So, just be careful to do your research! I’ll also advise to still shop in stores to get a feel how each silhouette actually works on your body— many people are surprised by what they end up loving on after dreaming of pictures of other styles

The veil I would say absolutely. I bought mine on a random discount site for $40 and it's absolutely gorgeous! however, a dress? I wouldn't risk it. But that's just me. I'm also a size 18 so I don't really clothes shop online at all. It's bad luck for me, always comes in too small, too big, too frumpy, not fitting like I thought it would, etc. But if you want to and it's an accredited, go ahead!

I hear a lot of negative comments on jjhouse.com, wish and lalamira.

I have heard great things about Amazon and Azazie.com for online wedding dresses. There is also David's bridal sample sales and other budget friendly options. You could also get the white bridesmaid dress etc

I bought my dress on Poshmark.

I just took my measurements and asked them their measurements and asked them exactly where they were measuring....the dress came in and it was literally made for my body.

And Poshmark has a fantastic authentication process so I was completely comfortable with purchasing from there.

And I saved like $1,000 on my dress by going with this route.

Also azazie has an amazing try on at home program where they mail samples to you so you can try before you buy.

I bought two different dresses online and loved them both! (They were for 2 very differentvenues so I had to choose one) but one was from a bride on eBay and the other one a site called stillwhite.com. Both were used but kept pristine and both had AMAZING price tags (I bought both for under $200) just throwing it out there as an option. Just be sure you’re buying from a reliable site, there was no alterations or if there was they work for you and that you have your correct sizing.
My friend bought a dress off Etsy and it was perfect also.

Just bought my dress online from ASOS for under $200! It should come tomorrow, and I have a month to return it if I decide against it. I'd definitely go back to looking at ASOS or maybe Lulu's if I end up returning this dress, but there is a dress from JJsHouse that I've had my eye on for MONTHS. I'd take the plunge with it if I'm being honest. I say this because I've seen quite a bit of good reviews from people on WW who've actually ordered from them. Of course, it does seem hit-or-miss because there are some people who haven't had the best experience, and it seems that customer service kind of sucks if you do get the short end of the stick, but I can't find a dress like that in my budget anywhere else, so I'd do it if it came down to it. BUT I do love the dress I bought from ASOS and I can't wait to try it on tomorrow!

I bought my dress from JJs House and am very happy with it. In fact, I just responded to a post yesterday with more detail....if you do a search, I think the title of the post was "Online Wedding Dress".

I used Poshmark too. I ordered a $400 dress for $180! New with tags!

The only drawback is that you're limited to what's in your size. So I searched every few days to see what I could find. Then when I found a dress I liked I was able to find reviews of the dress all over the internet and even pics of real brides wearing it. I went by the measurements from the BHLDN site. It fit perfect!

You can find a really nice designer dress and won't have to worry about what you're getting fabric and sew-manship(is that even a word) wise 😁

I responded to someone else's post on the same subject, specifically on Lulu's and ASOS Bridal: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/buying-a-wedding-dress-online/2cf6feb3a9625e39.html

I hope my thoughts help other brides who want to know more about these shops!

You have to set your expectations pretty low to be happy with a dress from either online store (ASOS or Lulu's). If you go to a real bridal shop with dresses worth several thousands of dollars you will, of course, think the "online" dresses are cheap. I've tried on dresses from Lulu's and ASOS. When I first got them in the mail, I thought "These are so cheap." I decided to go to a bridal shop to compare. After I tried on a $3000 dress at LovelyBride in LA, I thought, "Now I know why those other dresses cost so much." I justified the high prices and told myself it was worth it for the quality. So I paid a stupid amount for a dress from an Australian label (probably still made in China). I also bought a dress from ASOS. I'm way happier with the dress that I bought online because I enjoy knowing I got get a terrific look for 25x less than what I paid at a bridal shop. The "cheap" dress is so unique and fits more with who I am as a person. And I will happily tell everyone the price!!! I would never in a million years tell anyone how much I paid for the other dress which I currently have up on StillWhite.

Both ASOS and Lulu's rock in the customer service department. You can try them on and know you can return them if you don't like them. Don't abuse it though... they will crack down on excessive returns. But you can order multiple dresses in one order and return it no problem.

    Quality

Lulu's quality will shock and amaze you. The quality is far superior to anything from ASOS Bridal. However, ASOS bridal will treat the experience with a little more flair. If you actually order from ASOS bridal (and not just a white dress from their regular stock), they will send the dress in a white box. The dress comes on a hanger inside a garment bag! Lulu's will just stuff your dress into a bag.

    Dresses I've tried from ASOS:

ASOS EDITION embroidered flutter sleeve wedding dress - I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS DRESS. The sleeves and the back (or lack thereof) really sell it! The quality is what you might expect for this price range. Unlike more expensive dresses that might have silk or satin lining, this dress dress is lined with polyester, which doesn't have that luxurious feel. The fabric is light, which makes dancing way more enjoyable. You will need additional lining. I wouldn't recommend this dress if you have a larger bust as there isn't any support. You can add cups but things might shift during flight...

ASOS EDITION Embroidered Flutter Sleeve Maxi Wedding Dress - Same as above but different lace. I really loved the side view but the front was way too busy for me. The swiss dots are everything! It's also a brighter white than the other flutter sleeve dress. Also very light fabric!

ASOS EDITION plaited wedding dress- I feel so so about this one. It's currently on sale. I like the little bit of train that comes with the dress so it feels bridal but the braided fabric in the bodice feels strange to me.

Club L low back crepe detail fishtail wedding dress - No lining and bad shape.

ASOS EDITION Embroidered Bodice Wedding Maxi Dress - I didn't like the feel of this one on my skin. Not sure why but I felt like a young child in it. It was the first ASOS bridal dress I tried on and I was appalled at the quality back then. I hadn't adjusted my expectations yet. I would say the quality is similar to the flutter sleeve one that I love so much.

ASOS EDITION nouveau embroidered wedding dress- More gold/ivory than I wanted. Very pretty though!

    Dresses I've tried from Lulu's

IN DREAMS WHITE LONG SLEEVE LACE MAXI DRESS LULUS- GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS but I wanted more floral in the lace if I was going with a lace dress.

AVELINE WHITE OFF-THE-SHOULDER MAXI DRESS LULUS- I loved this dress so much but I couldn't get the right fit in the bust. The quality was the best out of all the dresses I tried (between both ASOS and Lulu's).
