    After 6 pages, the thread has been closed "for review." It turned into a bash-fest, against couples who want to host their guests properly. There was name calling and budget shaming incidents, too numerous to copy and paste.

    I'm usually all for doing what you want. Your friends and family want to support you, after all. Being a proper host is so culture dependent, that you'll always offend somebody. That being said there are some real health issues related to potluck weddings that I would not risk it. I think it's a shame that people who wanted to provide alcohol got bashed in the comments section. Life is too short to base your worth on what people on the internet say.
