I've never heard of it, but the name alone really turns me off.

12 pounds in 7 days does not sound healthy.

My grandpa actually did this. Well kind of did this. His cabbage soup ended up being more chicken soup. He still lost weight though. Basically it's just taking all the unnecessary things out of your diet and eating vegetables and lots if chicken in his case. I actually recommend chicken because you don't want to be lacking protein.

Thanks for that info @Jacque- I think its really a way to jumpstart weight loss and probably a majority of the loss could be water weight- regardless, I think it is worth a try!

Sorry, forgot to say. He didn't lost 12 pounds in a week. He lost water weight quickly but not that fast. And he genuinely likes his soup so he doesn't have a problem eating it as most meals. He was also working out, walking and strength training.

Super unhealthy. Why not just eat smaller portions, healthier foods, and exercise more? Personally, I believe you're way more likely to fall off the wagon by majorly restricting calories, rather than taking a balanced approach from the start.

My advice would be to sign up for myfitnesspal, calculate your TDEE (amount of calories you use per day, there are online calculators), and eat 15% below it. You have a ways to go before your wedding and can definitely drop some lbs doing this without making yourself miserable.

    Good luck.

If you want to fart to high hell and back...or so I've heard.

I've been doing a mostly gluten free diet for a few days, and I think its fantastic. I'm not doing it for weight loss primarily, but I think I've lost a few lbs in a few days. Its water weight to start, but I feel awesome!

I've said this once and I'll say it again,

LOSING WEIGHT IS NOT A QUICK FIX

Make a lifestyle change. Fad diets are annoying and don't work long term

This may sound counter intuitive, but the best way to lose "water weight" is to drink a shit ton of water. Seriously, you should be peeing every 45 minutes - 1 hour.

"you didn't put it all on in a week and you can't take it all off that fast either"

is a good mantra from Weight Watchers (I think that's where it's from)

I don't think it's made to be taken to the extreme is it?? Is it only cabbage soup for 7 days?? If that is the case that is not what my grandpa did either. Lol he basically ate way less Mexican food and way more soup. But like I said it was also a balanced meal so it worked for him

I don't think the diet sounds all too healthy.

My favorite "jump start" diet is Slim Fast - if you follow the diet to a T you can lose up to 3 pounds in the first week. That is eating the 1200 calories and not doing anything else...I've done it a few times just so I can "see" the change and then I continue with the reduced calories but not as low as 1200 and up my exercise.

It's important that you make lifestyle changes that are going to reinforce healthy eating and exercise.

Try reducing your calorie intake, increase water intake, increase the amount of calories you burn - I'm sure you will see the same results as the Cabbage Soup Diet.

Have you ever cooked cabbage? It smells awful. Yes, I've made this, BUT never for the purpose of taking it 7 days a week. I freeze the lot and I just have a serving as a meal replacement if I feel I've eaten too much junk that day. It's like having a cooked salad for a meal.

If it's a quick fix, you'll quickly gain the weight back.

If you live alone......ick though. I'd lose weight because if it was that or nothing? Nothing.

    Move more, eat less!

Being Polish, we always had a lot of cabbage in our house. We cooked with it all the time. It doesn't smell awful to me, but then again, we grew up with it. My sister and I did a version of this diet more than 20 years ago. My Dad made the soup, which was more or less a vegetable soup. He sliced the cabbage really thin, like long ribbons and put it in a couple minutes before we ate it. The cabbage wasn't soft and it was really quite good. The diet itself was difficult when you are used to eating junk. I did lose weight. I did keep it off until I went to college. Beer does not help anything. lol The big thing I noticed after was that I wasn't craving sweets as I used to. Incidentally, my Mother worked for a doctor who gave her the diet, written on paper, which is why we were crazy enough to do it. I wouldn't do it again, personally. Though the soup really is good.

I did that diet in college, not a fan of cabbage so I made onion soup. It wasn't bad, but you get tired of it after a few days. One day you eat bananas and milk and soup (causes really bad gas!), another is melon day, so you eat watermelon like crazy. It is not very healthy to deprive your body of basic things like protein.

This diet, as written, is pretty unhealthy, as it eliminates entire food groups. Broth based soups (not cream broth) ARE excellent for weight loss, as they are rolling and typically low calorie if homemade. Chicken veggie or beef veggie, all veggie, soups with barley or quinoa or a brown/wild/whole grain rice would all be great options.
