Cake and Donuts?

Kristen, on June 27, 2018 at 5:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

So FH and I keep going back and forth and I think we found a good option but I want to make sure that this doesn't sound weird for a wedding, because we both have a sweet tooth.

We originally planned on one big cake, no dessert table. Then we got the donut table idea and wondered if we'd even get a cake. Now what we are thinking is to do both. We'd do a 9" + 12" round cake (feeds up to 50) and then about 5-6 dozen assorted donuts. We will probably have about 100-120 guests, so not everyone will be able to get both cake and a donut. Does this sound like enough as far as dessert options? Should we be providing more?

What if everyone decides to get a both? You always want too much than not enough. Or throw some cupcakes in there

I agree that you would want to have enough for both. I've got a major sweet tooth as well and I would definitely be taking both. Maybe use the donut as a favor and not as part of the dessert table type stuff that would be with a cake.

Or just have a tiny one tier cake for cutting/picture purposes if you want that then do many different flavors of donuts kind of like what people do with cupcakes. Or a small cake shaped like a donut. Smiley xd

Nope. You need to have enough if each for all your guests. You can’t stop someone from taking both, Also, cake is usually served do they’d have to serve it to everyone and if you have a table with donuts, you need to have enough for everyone. Unless you’re having a wider variety of things, I’d stick to either cake or donuts.

Hey, Kristen! I think this is a great idea, but I agree with the other comments. A few phrases come to mind...variety is the spice of life...the more the merrier...Smiley xd

In any case, I would agree that you want to have enough for all of your guests. There's always a chance that someone won't take any (or at least not both), but I wouldn't take that bet at your wedding! Smiley ring

Have you considered doing the same size cake (or maybe even smaller) for tradition's sake and then having a variety of dessert options? Side note: you don't necessarily needs 120 servings of everything!

Here's a fun little article on 15 Reasons Why We (Still) Love Cupcakes. Just a thought! Smiley cake

I agree with PP... Have enough of both for everyone.

We're also doing cake, mini donuts (planning for three per person) and a dessert table. I recently posted about whether or not this was too much dessert and everyone told me no so we're moving forward. We have big sweet tooth problems too. Lol

The only thing I am worried about is having too much stuff and it not getting eaten! I think I will just add more donuts and do the small cake, because that way I can have more flavors. It also doesn't help my case that my favorite, albeit slightly pricey, donut shop is only a few miles from the venue. I am not going to know what flavors to pick!

If you're worried about having too many donuts, I would just get some small bags or to go boxes so people can take them home at the end of the night.

I think the amount you listed above sounds great. I personally haven't been to a wedding yet where they ran out of dessert. The couples were usually trying to give cake away. Some guests will eat both, but most people will eat one.

We're doing cake and then a mixture of donuts and donut holes. We'll have enough for each guest to have both (but I'm secretly hoping there are leftovers so I can eat them in the airport...)

We did cake, donuts and mini whoopie pies (not pictured)! We had a 10" cake, 100 donuts and 9 dozen mini whoopie pies for 125 guests. We had no whoopies left over and about 3 dozen donuts left at the end of the night.

We are doing a dessert buffet. So a small cutting cake (for pictures), then cookies, brownies, cake pops, pies, and cupcakes! We are budgeting for everyone to take 2-3 items.

You always want to make sure you have enough to feed all your guests. Some will want to get both. I know if I was your guest I would be getting both! If you're afraid of having to much leftover then provide some goody bags to go. I would rather overestimate than underestimate.
