I just wanted to share because we actually cut a lot of costs on flowers, centerpieces, table number decor, and having to order one large cake to feed 160 people. It saved us 300$ by ordering 16 small cakes and one bride and groom cake (just to cut).

The cakes will all be the same flavor and it would have been if we purchased a large cake. And yes, they're 6 inch cakes so if someone messes up, I don't think it will be a big deal since some tables will have 8 -10 guests. As for poking the cakes, Im not too concerned. Most people are sitting with really good friends and close family (whom prolly share drinks with anyways). I'm not thinking too much into it, I just wanted something that would be cute and save money at the same time Smiley smile

I love this idea. We were thinking of doing cupcake bouquets as centerpieces. And a 2 tier cake to cut for those who want traditional cake.

For those saying "people would never mess with the cake at a wedding!" Some asshole guest at my sisters wedding literally CUT INTO ONE OF THE CAKES before my sister and her husband did! Thank god I had made a backup cake!

I am with those who would not partake.

Too many germs on the cake by cutting time. I also do not eat a birthday cake when someone blows out the candles.

    Germaphobic, I suppose. :-)

I love that idea! And if anyone puts their fingers in it then thats their own damn fault and they just ruined their own dessert. Oh well

I love this idea! I don't think it's much more risky than other things that get touched at a wedding – dessert tables, coffee carafes, the Guest Book pen, etc. OP, please post a pic of how yours look on the day!

This is a cute idea. Go for it!!! I wouldn't do it personally bc I love floral centerpieces for a certain elegant wedding vibe. But I love that this something unique and new-ish (Ive never heard of it). The idea of the couple that has been longest together is so adorable. Its a good way to get guest to interact and feel included.

I also wouldn't worry about ppl. digging in the cake with their fingers unless you are inviting animals, people without manners, or kids (specifically toddlers) which I taketh you aren't.

Aesthetically, it's cute -- not elegant, but cute. Practically, no thanks. I don't want to eat the centerpiece after it's been open to to a microcosm of the general public for three hours -- not edible fruit centerpieces, and not cake centerpieces. And if you don't think people stick their unwashed hands into food that's an arm's length away, then you don't think people stick their unwashed hands into food that an arm's length away (I've seen random guests casually meandering around the reception site, as we're setting up -- so irritating -- and I've seen them going up to the cake, taking their fingers, swiping them at the back of the cake, licking them, going back for seconds, and then, as it that weren't gross enough, using those saliva laden fingers to smooth out the crime. No thanks, but it will make for nice pics).

I'm not saying this because I'm a florist who definitely prefers fresh floral centerpieces to stacks of books and votive candles. In fact, I'd rather see two pillar candles than any edible centerpiece. But hey, that's me. I gag when movies have scenes of individuals brushing their teeth because I'm just waiting for the...gag...spitting in the sink finale (that they never rinse down the sink).

Do an experiment...the next time you're at a crowded function -- say, a wedding (or a Broadway play at intermission) -- watch how many women walk out of those stalls and go right past the sinks in favor of the mirror. My experiment, which I've been doing for decades, says four out of ten of them don't wash their hands after using the facilities. That's reality, and I'll be damned if their bacteria is going to get into my digestive system. If you want cake centerpieces, fine -- but use them for decoration, not food. Or don't...it's up to you.

I'm not a fan of this look. Just kinda odd to me, almost birthday-esque. Give me all the flowers.
