Cake flavors: basic or nontraditional?

Are you picking something that is tried and true familiar or different from the rest?

We're more basic, but like...elevated I think? One tier is lemon with raspberry jam and a bavarian cream filling and the other is chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache filling. So lemon and chocolate, but with fancy sounding fillings haha.

We haven't had our cake meeting/tasting yet, but my FH wants to do the traditional tiered cake, which for our number of guests would be probably 4-5 tiers so we'd probably do the larger tiers in more traditional flavors, and maybe one or two tiers in fun more unique flavors. BUT i want to do cupcakes with a small cutting cake for us, in which case we'd get a variety of flavors, some traditional and some unique.

We're going with 4 or 5 different flavors of mini cupcakes. we'll do some traditional like chocolate and vanilla. But we're also doing Jack Daniel's and caramel, grasshopper, and a bunch of other boozy ones.

I would love a unique flavor. Unfortunately we had to use an Orthodox kosher bakery and they only have a handful of basic flavors. To make up for it, we'll also have a dessert parade with lots of flavors of tarts, popsicles, cookies, etc.

I did 2 flavors (to appeal to the vanilla crowd and the chocolate crowd.) Steve's black forest but the "vanilla" cake was almond with rose ganache. It was divine. Zero regret except not eating more of it

We’re going to do a small basic cake for ourselves for pictures. Then we’re doing a few different cupcake & donut flavors for everyone else. As well as probably a few other desserts

I want to do a gin and elderflower or gin and other botanical cake. I'm not sure how well received it will be though, so I'm a little hesitant.

I went with strawberry filling with a plain white cake and then i don't really know where i got the idea from, but i then asked my baker later if i can have two flavors instead and so i ended up doing the last largest tier as mango filling and then the top two tiers as strawberry

We did multiple cakes with slightly off tradition flavors but still pretty basic.

Our big cake was a strawberry, cream, and almond torte

Our smaller cake was a chocolate ganache torte

We had a wedding cake made of brownie, I don't know if it's original enough ;-)

We're going with a local chef that has won a baking show on Food Network, and decided to go with untraditional flavors. We are going with Mexican chocolate cake with salted chocolate caramel mousse filling

We're doing cupcakes and we were given a sampler of their cupcake flavors. Some were basic and others were non-traditional. We narrowed it down to 3 flavors and two seem basic: chocolate and red velvet and the third is kind of non-traditional which is carrot chai.

Love a good cake discussion Smiley smile. All of the mentioned flavors sound delish! My fave cake is a strawberry shortcake and his is cheese cake so the wedding cake will be strawberry shortcake and we are having mini cheesecakes too. I want some cake now haha!

We have a 3 tier cake. One is yellow cake with grand marnier buttercream filling, one is yellow cake with vanila custard filling and one is yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling. I am most excited for the grand marnier tier!

We just had our cake tasting a couple days ago. We have decided on a large three-tier cake. The cake is white champagne with a layer of Bavarian cream, layer of raspberry preserves, and a layer of Bavarian cream again, with a lemon cream cheese buttercream frosting. We also ordered little raspberry and dark chocolate parfait cups, salted caramel and dark chocolate cookies, and a chocolate mini cupcake with a salted caramel ganache frosting and sweet cream filling. Yummy! 🍰🧁
