Cake Insurance?

Bethany, on December 28, 2020 at 11:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
I was going to have a close friend of mine make our wedding cake to cut costs but I just found out from our wedding venue that whoever makes the cake needs to be insured? Does anyone know what kind of insurance that would be? I’m guessing insurance in case someone were to get sick but I’m not entirely sure. Any help is appreciated!

I would imagine they are referring to the business being insured.

They as a business needs to be insured as a cake business for you to use the person is what they are saying

The person who you get the cake from needs to be insured and an actual buisness

Basically your venue is telling you they need your cake to come from a licensed, insured business, not an unlicensed friendor, in order to cover their potential liability. I wouldn't expect your friend to be able to get acceptable insurance, unless she is willing to go to a lot work/expense to meet the insurance company's criteria (which likely include obtaining a food handlers license, a business license, etc.). It's the same idea as a venue that doesn't allow for potluck food or BYOB alcohol.
