Cake Porn!

What's the purpose of a grooms cake? I've never seen this before except recently watching cake shows on TV. Seems odd to have regular dessert, wedding cake and a grooms cake. Especially on top of dinner and sometimes cocktail hour.

I think the point is to let them feel manly, since wedding cakes are pretty girly. Maybe it makes them feel special that they get their own man cake.

SOOO I have no clue what we are doing yet for our wedding cake.

But I did give the best man permission last weekend to buy an exploding grooms cake... and yesterday he texted me this picture... so I guess wedding cakes are going to be a topic of conversation at my wedding.

Yep, Alyssa nailed it! I have never been to a wedding where a grooms cake was done, but I'm thinking of taking off one of our tiers and having a grooms cake instead. Give FH a surprise with a cake with his favorite team on it.

Also, grooms cakes are typically chocolate vs wedding cakes which are typically white. Found that out after doing research on them.

DH wanted a chocolate cake, and then he wanted a White Sox cake. About a month before our wedding he decided against a groom's cake altogether, lol.

My inspiration but with 3 layers...may be changed to 4 since FSIL said she's paying and we can do whatever and my surprise grooms cake!

ETA: our cake is 3 different flavors in each layer that I can't remember right now and me and FH hate chocolate cake so his will probably be something with raspberry filling which he liked at our cake tasting appt!

Here's a few of my inspiration cakes. Meeting with a cake person next month! Excited!

Our cake had three different flavors. The bottom was called "Little Italy" and was a cinnamon cake with a cannoli filling. (This was fitting since we got married in the Little Italy neighborhood of our city.) The middle layer was called "Peaches B demented" and was a peach cake with a ginger mousse filling. The top layer was a rich chocolate fudge with peanut butter.

ETA: The second photo is of me saying "Don't do it..." No smashing of cake at our wedding.

Here is my inspiration cake. FH already has the cake stand built. We will be having different flavors but aren't sure which ones yet. We are having 5 cakes. The bottom of the stand will have burlap wrapped around it with a few flours instead of the greens.

Our cake was a four tier: chocolate chip cake with bailey's irish creme filling and lemon cake with lemon curd filling.

The one tier had all of our table quotes printed on it.

Our topper was Harry Potter inspired: DH had a wand and Slytherin House colored tie and I have Ravenclaw's diadem on and am carrying "paper" flowers and a book locket necklace Everyone LOVED our cake.

Here is our inspiration then the pic of what she has drawn up to show what our's will look like! It's vanilla flavored cake with raspberry preserves filling and vanilla flavored buttercream icing! YUM!

@ReneeCool- I love that! I love it when couples incorporate special meanings into their cake. Red velvet is my favorite cake, so I wanted to be sure that our single tier was just that.
