Cake & Punch Reception at Different Location than Ceremony

We are interested in having our ceremony at the Anna Scripps Whitcomb conservatory Scripps Conservatory in Michigan on Belle Isle, it's really inexpensive (we are working with a $4000 budget, this venue plus chairs is less than $1,000). However, the conservatory only does ceremonies, no reception or food allowed (based on what I could find online).

If we are only having a Cake & Punch reception is it too much to ask to have people drive to a different location (15-20 minutes) to attend the reception? Or should we just choose a place where you can do both?

Total # of ppl being invited approx 100

I have never attended a punch and cake reception, but I have been invited to two later this year. I was invited to once in the past and quite honestly forgot about it (there were no paper invitations and I was not that close to the couple). I really do not know what to expect at either. I know that if I have to drive from one place to the other and happen to get hungry (depending on the time) we will go eat something before going to the reception. I am actually surprised to hear my friend say she is going to have dancing, and possibly a DJ, but more than likely no tables and a few chairs. It seems to me like if you are going to have a cake and punch, let it be it short and sweet.

I actually just learned that a friend's wedding and cake and punch reception will be at different locations. Furthermore, I learned she planned on having music, dancing, and that the reception venue may not have enough seating (possibly not even tables) due to space. Depending on how that day goes, and the time and hunger level, it is very likely we are going to go somewhere to eat after ceremony, and come late to the reception and only stay for a little bit.

Did you end up doing the ceremony on Belle Isle? How was it?
