Cake serving, who’s doing this for the day of your wedding??

Unfortunately, our vendor for the cake will only delivery and setup the cake for display. We’re thinking about asking a family member, however we want everyone to enjoy the night. How do yall plan to do this for your guest? Any ideas or recommendations?

We are just doing a small cake and cupcakes for our wedding, but my childhood best friend is getting married this weekend, and he and his fiancee asked me and a good friend of ours to serve their cake for them. Someone asked if I felt like it would hinder my ability to enjoy the reception, and I don't feel that way at all. Especially with having help, I don't think it will take that long, and if I can take just one stresser off the bride and groom, I am happy to.

At all the weddings I have been to, a close family member does it. I asked my aunts if they would and they cut my cake. If you are having a regular round wedding cake, make sure whoever is cutting it knows how to properly cut those types of cake!

We actually didn't order a cake, we did donut towers instead. However, FH step mom decided to order a cake as a surprise and brought it with her. She did the cake serving. All we did was the initial cut for pictures.

I will agree with everyone else, the caterer should be able to serve the cake for you Smiley smile

I actually negotiated all those little things with our caterer and they are now all included.

If you have a multi tiered cake, it will be very difficult for a lay person to take it apart so it can get cut properly.

Your caterer should do it, and if not, I recommend a cupcake tower

Fortunately the cake and the caterer comes with our venue and they have someone who will cut the cake for us.

My suggestion is see if you can hire someone to do it for you

My caterer said they would do it for a small fee but my DOC also said that they could do it if we needed them to. If you have a DOC I would ask them, mine told me they are there for whatever I need that day.

The last thing I want is for the cutting and serving of the cake to turn into a mess so when we get to the point of choosing a caterer, Baker, and DoC, one of them should have provisions for dealing with that. It’s one of the most common traditions / activities at western culture weddings that I would think a lot of vendors would already be prepared for that task. It seems that most of the time there’s a fee based on the number of slices, but we are taking that into account for budget.

Our caterer is doing it, even though they aren't providing the cake. From what I've seen most caterers offer some sort of cake service. I would just be mindful that sometimes there might be an extra charge.
