I've seen the idea on Pinterest as a way to make your wedding "interactive". I thought it was repulsive.

Ew our friends had this and I was mortified. It was so gross and tacky and the MOH/brides sister came up to me and reminded me to put in money. Lol. No. I spent enough just getting there.

@Melissa seriously!? They came up to you and reminded you to give money? That's absolutely awful.

I hate the whole smash cake in each other's face thing anyway. The jar just makes it worse

Yuck. I went to a wedding a couple of months ago and they also did this. The DJ had to remind everyone a few times since the jars were empty for awhile. Nobody was putting anything in...

I saw this idea on pinterest as well, and really liked the fun and interactive element behind it. I also agree though that asking for money after already asking your guests to come and buy a gift is really tacky. My FH and I have thought about doing this but with chips/tokens instead of asking for money. Just leave a bowl of tokens next to the jars and asking each guest to drop a token in the jar of their choice. Whomever has the most tokens gets cake in the face. We thought this would be a good way of keeping the fun without being rude or tacky.

I've never seen or heard of this but asking guests for even more money after they presumably brought you a gift does seem tacky. Also most people don't even carry cash on them. If someone loves the idea, I like @Jessica's suggestion of using tokens. Or maybe something "wedding-y" like hershey kisses (i.e. you can even change the sign to "who takes the cake to the kisser" if you use hershey kisses). It just needs to be something you can count.
