Cake stands! Cake dimensions!

Erin Wood, on January 18, 2017 at 4:08 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

What are you using for a cake stand? This didn't even occur to me until today. My baker has one but I don't like it. Just curious what others are using.

Also wondering what the dimensions of your cake will be? Contemplating 6", 8", 10", 12" or 6", 9", 12", 15".

I plan on DIYing mine. I will post the results after I'm done.

ETA: Not having tiers because we are doing a dessert bar. If it were me I would make a scale drawing of both and see what ratio I liked better.

I let the baker decide the dimensions based on the number of people that need to be fed. I did let them know that I would rather it be taller than wider. Here was our cake stand. We rented it from the baker.

That's pretty Mrs. Knolle! I definitely want mine to be tall and am considering doing a fake tier at the bottom just to give it height.

@MN- we are doing dessert bar as well. So excited!

We'll have a 6" cake on an 8" white board and then a 10" stand most likely.

ETA: We are also doing 4 different desserts.

I won't know what size of a cake stand to get until a month or so beforehand. 5" 7" 9" are the dimensions.

I have the white wood plank ones from hobby lobby and got them when they had their sale so they were 50% off.. (hobby lobby does rain checks too, but they also have their sales like every other week... They are 14" by 14" and my caterer suggested a 10" cake so I would have 2" to spare.

Our venue has one. I think it's gold? In the grand scheme of things, I am just thankful that it's one less thing I have to worry about that day.

I bought an Oleg Cassini cake stand from BBB that matched our flutes and knife/server. Stand is 14" round and our layers will be 12", 10", 8", 6".

My MIL and I love to go to antique shops. We found a number of stands there to do cookies and desserts on. We are getting a larger one at hobby lobby for the cake.

The photo has cake dishes and stands we found at antique shops and goodwill stores. The crochet table cloth too. We are doing a vintage wedding.
