Cake Topper After the Wedding?

Charis, on August 8, 2017 at 5:42 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 64

I feel like my cake needs a topper but so far I'm not finding anything I'm in love with. What do you all do with the toppers after the wedding? Throw them in a box and never look at them again? Sell on Craigslist? Something fun I haven't thought of? I guess I'm too practical and if it's basically going out the door after the reception that will change how much we want to spend on it.

Thoughts?

(Not to offend anyone that found one they love and spent a lot. We are just on a tight budget)

I actually bought a clay custom topper for this reason. I made payments because it was on the expensive side. But its something ill have forever. Some put thiers on the registry and other have bought from amazon or ac moore michaels hobby lobby with coupons.

Well don't feel bad. I spent a lot of money on a customized porcelain couple for the top of our cake, and the hotel staff accidentally dropped it while setting up the reception area. One of the girl's arms broke off. We were able to turn it around so you couldn't tell unless you were standing behind the cake like we were, but it's been sitting in the box since then since it's broken.

I'm getting one for about 30 dollars on Etsy with our names and dates. For 30 dollars, I don't care about tossing it later if that's what winds up happening.

I bought a cake topper pick off of Etsy and I plan to just kind of surprise my FH by putting it on a desert once in awhile. Just so that it doesn't sit in a box forever, but still brings a smile to our faces & reminds us of our wedding day.

I got one with our last name that I plan to use in the shadow box I'm going to make after the wedding is over. I'm like you and didn't want to "waste" money

We didn't do one. We've looked at several, but don't really love the look of any of them. We're opting for a few fresh flowers instead.

I'll try to sell mine. It was only $20 so if it doesn't sell I'll just donate it or stick it in a plant. Lol!

Our cake toppers were the two chairs from "Up" molded in clay.

We got married at a winery, so another piece of decoration I made was wine corks glued together to spell "L O V E" so I found a shadow box, and put the cork letters in along with the cake topper and it is super adorable and I'm so glad we semi-splurged on the cake topper. I was worried what I would do with it after but I think it's perfect.

I'll try to find a pic

ETA this is the best pic I can find and it's pretty shitty lol but just trying to show that you can be creative with how you use things after the wedding! The toppers are inside the heart. We also put one preserved flower from my bouquet, and my Hs boutonniere in there also!

We bought ours on an etsy shop for $15 ( it's just our last name in cursive) and I'm not sure what we'll do with it after. But, for $15, I'm not too worried.

ETA: we are also having fresh flowers on our cake as well

I bought a really cute topper on etsy that came with a removable base! That way we can use it as home decor after the wedding. I love the topper so much- it will be nice to have it around and on display as a reminder of the special day :]

I bought a custom one that said "Mr and Mrs Flax" from Etsy. I am going to cut off the little stick that was in the cake and make a shadow box with some of our decor. I am going to put the cake topper in there. Our baker is who recommended this to us.

I spent $100 on ours on Etsy--it was custom Arabic calligraphy of our names. It had a little stand, so now it sits on the display shelf where we keep the pretty wine glasses!

Etsy FTW! About $25 can get you something really nice. Thinking of cutting the stick off and using it as decor or in a shadow box with the fisherman's knot we are tying. I like the idea of putting it in a plant too!
