Cake vs Cupcakes

My fiancé and I are going back and forth whether we should get cupcakes (assortment of regular size and minis) vs cake. From a cost perspective, it comes out pretty even, but with the cupcakes you gave to worry about the display. For those who are doing cupcakes/have done cupcakes, any suggestions for the display? Also, any recommendations on how many to order for 180 people? One of the bakeries I reached out to suggest 1.5 per person of regular size and 3 per person for minis. Would love some help!

We are getting cake, it's easier to deal with and you just decorate the table where u put it , but with cupcakes there is always that risk if they might be too dry (was in a wedding where the cupcakes were not that great) or how it will fit with the overall style!

I love cupcakes.
thwrss a ton of pictures on Pinterest of displays. You would use different heights etc.
I have honestly only ever eaten one cupcake at a wedding. Regular sized.
Maybe 160 regular and then 40 - 60 minis?
Also I wouldn’t worry about it being dry. The same thing can happen with cake. Just make sure you’re tasting the flavors and getting them from a good bakery.

We chose a cake to cut and 4 flavors of regular sized cupcakes. This was the display before all the cupcakes were put out. We wanted the desserts to speak for themselves and didn't add anything extra to the table other than plates, forks, and our personalized napkins. Our cupcakes were a hit but because we had a couple of no shows we overbought. We ordered our cakes based on a total of 48 people and bought 5 dozen cupcakes. We had a total of 38 people and ended up with about a dozen cupcakes after the reception.

I went to one where there were cupcakes and they put it on a table with a lot of tiers

We are actually doing both! We are getting bundlets from Nothing Bundt Cakes, which are 12 for $20. Because we’re doing cupcakes our cake is going to be smaller!

This is our cake!! Except we order 25 extra cupcakes. We’re having about 100 people invited to our wedding. The total number of cake cupcakes is 75.

My daughter debated wedding cake vs cupcakes for awhile.
Then she thought about it, You can have cupcakes anytime, but you can't have a 3 layer cake anytime. So she went with the cake.

I was thinking about doing Nothing Bundt Cakes too! So you'll just have the smaller wedding cake that you guys cut, and the guests can select their flavor of NBC?

We’re going to have the mini nothing bundt cakes and a small cake so that people can choose either one they want or Both! We might do a small cutting cake and then a sheet cake from Costco if the normal cake is too expensive.
