California 2021 brides!

I came across this LA times news article (linked to thread) and I’m seeking insight on reception restrictions. I was shocked to see an article today that said all receptions were banned, even if we are in the lowest tier (yellow). My venue (an outdoor ceremony and reception at a hotel in Los Angeles) has mentioned that they are moving full steam ahead and plan on holding 100 person weddings this summer and fall.
My concern is that hotels will obviously have to follow the state protocols. If we are in tier yellow (less than 1% transmission) but are prohibited to hold receptions, what are we to do? This is frustrating and quite frankly very vague. The only thing lower than yellow tier is no restrictions at all, so should California brides except to not be allowed to have receptions this season? Even if people are vaccinated, socially distanced, masked etc? Hotels will have to follow whatever the state protocols are at that time, and if this is how it is going to be I would rather plan an alternative now.
Are there any California brides that have received factual information on this? My wedding planner doesn’t have any insight. My hotel doesn’t have any insight. I am even willing to take this issue up with the state if I have to. I have spent way too much money and invested way too much time to not be allowed to have a safe outdoor reception in yellow tier with less than 1% state transmission while other things like indoor gyms, indoor pools can open at 25%-50%. (Rant over)

Thanks for posting this! My wedding is scheduled for August 28, 2021 in Santa Barbara. Our venue is outdoors, but I'm still anxious about how the COVID situation is going to pan out. We're inviting 131 and expecting about 100 will show (or less than that hopefully).

So many brides in CA have had successful weddings/receptions this year with 100 people or less (to include our own county DA) despite the extreme restrictions (it takes some creativity such as private venues, large properties, backyards, etc.) However, it's especially maddening when amusement parks, sporting events, schools, awards shows (like the Grammys) are opening up but yet our state won't officially allow receptions. Everything has been so arbitrary...

    Hello my fellow brides,

I came across this thread and the information made me panic! I did some digging and confirmed the 3 household limit for gatherings was true. I completely agree that it is outrageous especially when sporting events and amusement parks are opening....So, I reached out to my wedding coordinator and she has been part of a committee that is working on reopening weddings, and receptions, safely. She told me that our first state guidelines for weddings should be announced this Friday, March 19th 2021. My fingers and toes are crossed that this will give us all a sigh of relief about our guest counts. Let us hope we hear good news! I will return with a link once the information is provided.
Let us hope for the best!

Just received word that the release of CA guidelines for weddings have been pushed out to April 1st. Let us hope this delay will be to our benefit good and they will be less restrictive.

Lol. As have I! Let's hope the delay is a good sign but they won't delay the information much longer than that. My wedding is on June 5th of this year and I would really like to send out our re-invites with enough time for guests to reply. Let's stay positive!

My planner also said we’d get an update but not until April 15 - currently they’re advising me to cap it at 150 guests for a fall wedding. I’m the second indoor wedding that they have in 2021. I picked October 2021 after postponing from 9/5/20, hoping that people would be vaccinated by the spring of 2021. I have a massive family and everyone just wants to get together again so I’m worried it will be impossible to cut the guests in almost half. Hopefully this next round of updates provides some clarity for everyone because I wasn’t able to move the venue because of how congested OC is with all of the postponed weddings. Most LA venues aren’t even taking reservations right now :/

I just found this blog. It sounds like everyone is pushing back their weddings, but maybe I am wrong. I am getting married early May 2021. Majority of our guests will be vaccinated and for those who aren’t I am paying for them tested. Everything is all outdoors as well. I am now worried that maybe I should just cancel all together since it was postponed from August last year. For those who postponed in May/June, did you do in hopes of a bigger and “normal” wedding where you can mingle and dance?

I am hopeful that CA releases their guidelines April 1 as I am planning for a ceremony followed by a 4 hour dinner. Alcohol and food will be served restaurant style and there will be no cake cutting. There will be no dancing and no cocktail hours. Maybe some entertainment and games. Guest list is going to be under 75 and completely outdoors. It’s not going to be a typical wedding which I am okay with but it will bring people together to celebrate in the safest manner possible. Curious to hear other reasons on why postpone?

I'm really hoping for good news! We're getting married in Oxnard on August 6, 2021. Ceremony outdoors and reception indoors with around 100 people. We're really hoping not to have to reschedule. My fiance has a ton of family coming in from Canada for this so notice would be nice. I've been super anxious about this for the last few months not knowing if things will be good to go by summer.

    Hello Lianne,

I am also getting married in St. Helena in July 2021. I would be interested in connecting with you on the guidance you are hearing. My venue last week which is a winery said we could proceed with a Ceremony, but a reception would only be allowed with 3 households.

Let me know if you are up to chatting offline... maybe we can join forces in getting answers.

I am getting married May 8 in San Diego. As of now there is no guest cap since the venue is large, however it is all outside. It's a hotel so they are being strict. Essentially we are doing ceremony and dinner. No dancing or cocktail hour. Crossing fingers for changes.

Thank you for the info re April 1st! Very happy I found this thread! Hoping they can adjust these current guidelines because they just don't make sense if we are all vaccinated etc.

I may be a little delusional but I'm planning as if everything will be fine by August 14, 2021. Currently, my venue wont even consider talking about plans until they get word from the state. We cut our invite list to 80 people. Ceremony outside and Reception in, and still plan on cocktail hour with dancing after dinner. What an emotional roller coaster.

    Hi there,

Can you share with me where you had your reception? My venue is not allowing any reception for any amount of people at this time and I'm looking for a backup/alternative option.

    Thanks!

Mine is on May 22nd 2021. My OC venue are ok with 200 people indoor/outdoor. Our families are fully vaccinated already. Most of the guests already got vaccinated and we will do all precaution measurements on seating chart , grouping family in stuff. Major of the guests are family, I have A big family. I am so nervous as it gets so close to the date, only 2 months left.

    Hello!

This thread isn’t necessarily brides that are pushing back their weddings as of now. We are brides that initially pushed back our 2020 wedding and now getting married this summer or fall is 2021. I don’t see many comments on here talking about postponing but rather finding a venue that has direct information on what we can and can’t do. For example, if my venue tells me that we cannot dance or have cocktail hour then that venue quite frankly isn’t worth my time or money. I wouldn’t postpone but I would ask for a refund and reschedule.
We are all grouping in this thread to hopefully get some answers because right now the states guidelines are outdated and only allowing three households to gather for receptions. I hope this helps clear up this thread!

    Hello!

Would you mind sharing which venue you’re working with? We are planning to have a June 6th wedding and our venue (Bel-Air Bay Club) just cancelled on us and we are looking for alternative options.
