California 2021 brides!

I came across this LA times news article (linked to thread) and I’m seeking insight on reception restrictions. I was shocked to see an article today that said all receptions were banned, even if we are in the lowest tier (yellow). My venue (an outdoor ceremony and reception at a hotel in Los Angeles) has mentioned that they are moving full steam ahead and plan on holding 100 person weddings this summer and fall.
My concern is that hotels will obviously have to follow the state protocols. If we are in tier yellow (less than 1% transmission) but are prohibited to hold receptions, what are we to do? This is frustrating and quite frankly very vague. The only thing lower than yellow tier is no restrictions at all, so should California brides except to not be allowed to have receptions this season? Even if people are vaccinated, socially distanced, masked etc? Hotels will have to follow whatever the state protocols are at that time, and if this is how it is going to be I would rather plan an alternative now.
Are there any California brides that have received factual information on this? My wedding planner doesn’t have any insight. My hotel doesn’t have any insight. I am even willing to take this issue up with the state if I have to. I have spent way too much money and invested way too much time to not be allowed to have a safe outdoor reception in yellow tier with less than 1% state transmission while other things like indoor gyms, indoor pools can open at 25%-50%. (Rant over)

Don’t get too excited yet. We need to wait for Los Angeles County guidelines.

Once you find them, can you update here? LA will probably most likely go alone with State though, right?

No necessarily. Each county can decide and in LA they are usually stricter.

My date is June 5, but for anyone after June 15, they just announced that the state will "fully reopen" on June 15th. Not sure what that entails, but something worth monitering.

I hope they do follow the state blue print. I hate that nothing has been released by the county.

Goodness it’s truly a disaster. I’m in SF and had rescheduled my wedding for mid-June. Small 35 people outside gathering and hoping to be allowed to have some food and drinks since every guest will be fully vaccinated. Well! Looks like we can all dine inside at a restaurant or see a film these days, but having an outdoor wedding reception is still considered not allowed! Smiley sad. Super confused and disappointed. Our venue canceled for the entire month of June already and now we are aimless and trying to find another venue or space. Best of luck to you. I have no clue when we will get relief.

Was your venue a hotel? Also, what was their reason for canceling the entire month of June? I'm really sorry for all the headache. I feel very stressed about my wedding and had to reschedule three times..

Nope it was actually a venue on regional park land....I don’t know their reason for canceling the entire month of June, other than their staff continued to fail at organization and communication. (For example they told us two weeks ago we were good to go for everything. We notified all our guests, and then came back and said “never mind”). So my guess is to prevent that from happening again? Such a headache. I’m sorry you have had to cancel three times! This is just my second, and I’m desperately trying to find an alternative space.

I'm sorry, that sounds so stressful. I'm getting married at a State Beach and communication has been a struggle there too. I'm not sure if this would help you out but I'm in the SF bay area as well. HERE is my venue research list. I hope you find an alternative space!

The link doesn’t seem to be working on this site. For LA county reception and private event updates go to this link below and click “private events” — dancing is allowed!

Thank you for this! I'm sending it to my venue right now. We're supposed to have our wedding in August but they have yet to confirm if that's possible. I'm hoping this will push them to make a decision.

You’re welcome! Essentially all of these guidelines will disappear if the state still fully opens on June 15th so you’ll be in good shape by August. Definitely get answers from your venue ASAP!

Has anyone actually talked to their venue or wedding planner regarding the new guidelines released on 4/15? According to my wedding planner, none of the venues in LA county are holding indoor weddings.

Our San Diego venue has given us the impression we’ll be allowed to have an indoor reception for our 10/23/21 wedding but not sure when they are going to first start allowing them.

My venue is under LA City Parks and they still haven’t received guidelines to reopen. My event is 9/11/21 (outdoors) and they still can’t guarantee anything at this point. I’m confused because I thought we were in the orange tier which allowed receptions? Why is it that all other places are reopening and not LA City Parks for receptions? http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/coronavirus/docs/protocols/Reopening_PrivateEvents.pdf

I’m not sure why they would say that. The guidelines that the county released a couple of weeks ago are the guidelines that they should follow. I would call and ask them why they aren’t updating their policies to match Los Angeles guidelines. LA county is about to move into the lowest tier next week if all goes well this week. Outdoor gatherings shouldn’t be an issue by September.
