Calla Lilies

Peach Blossom, on September 25, 2010 at 10:28 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

While planning for my own wedding, I also am in charge of making flowers for my cousin's wedding this fall. She wanted small white calla lilies dyed purple. My question is: can I dye calla lilies, what are the consequences of dyeing calla lilies, and do you have any photos of a dyed calla?

Thanks all!

Hobby lobby sells purple calla lillies. I would look into that before I try dying them, as they always have 50% off sales. Good luck!

Real calla lillies come in purple. No need to dye them.

They are not a dark purple, but purple they can be.

I guess I should have asked if you were wanting to buy online or locally.. haha. I wouldn't risk dying real ones though... I've never heard of that? I would search and find the best price and get it already done. It will also save you a lot of work!

These are just purple calla lilies. Beautiful bouquet. Picture is from my photographer, Kelly Vasami's blog.

Thanks all. I never heard of dyeing real calla lilies purple either. My cousin plans on buying the calla lilies from Sam's Club. I've checked and currently, they only have the white lilies available, so that's why my cousin wants me to dye it purple.

Instead of dying Calla lilies try getting floral spray and spray them. This will help them look more natural and less fake. Also beware dye and spraying them will shorten the life of the flower and they may not make it thru the entire day. Just a suggestion, leave the lillies as is and use a colored ribbon/sash on the bouquet, or a filler flower---baby's breath can be sprayed VERY EASILY to any color that way the bouquets will last all day and wont have to worry about them going limp on you. You can get floral spray at a store like Michaels or some online florist sites carry it also. It runs about 5 bucks a can. A can would do one to two bouquets if you sprayed the calla lillies and one can should be fine if you just spray the bab's breath.

Thank you soooooooooooooooooo much for all the beautiful and great suggestions ladies!

My cousin finally decided on just ordering purple calla lilies from elsewhere for her bouquet instead of trying to dye white lilies.

    =)
