Calligraphy on Wedding Cake

Haley, on November 2, 2017 at 11:18 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 6

What ink/marker/edible substance is used for these calligraphy wedding cakes?! I first saw this post (pictured below) on Instagram in April and have slowly seen this trend pop up more and more. But I have no idea what they write with or if it's even edible. Has anyone had a calligrapher write on their cake? If it isn't edible, how is it served?

Google "calligraphy on wedding cakes" and you'll find several options. It can be "painted on" or it can be printed using an "edible printer" system....

Pastry chefs use edible ink. It can be done with markers or pre-printed sheets. We use icing sheets wafer paper and different types of transfer methods including chocolate. You can check with your bakery to find out what they use.

I have no advice. It's just really really beautiful. Good luck!

@RH912 we're having my FH's Aunt make our cake! She does it on the side, not full-time so she had never seen it when I showed her the picture. Wanted to see if any WW brides had to hire a separate calligrapher just to come in and do it. Glad to know some options are actually edible!

I use an edible printer/ icing sheets for this. You really don't want anything on your cake that is not edible besides flowers/topper etc.

Milton's makes edible markers, you can find them at Michaels. I've never used them though, so I'm not sure how user friendly or tasty they are
