Calling all Menstrual Cup Users!

Katherine, on April 19, 2017 at 2:48 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 1 29

If you use a menstrual cup, how do you feel about it?

I'm worried about getting my period on my wedding day since my cycle and flow have been really unpredictable after going off the pill three months ago. I was thinking the cup might be the answer to my concerns because I wouldn't have to think about it all day or try to change a tampon in my ball gown. Yikes.

I have a call into my doctor about if it's safe for me to use (I have an IUD and the internet says it's fine but I want the word from the professional!), but I'd love to hear some input from actual users. What brand do you prefer? What fold do you use? Any other tips or tricks?

Thanks!

I'd be scared ... it's a fear of mine to have my period as well ... I think I've heard things about a pill they can give to prevent your period from comming I could be wrong .. I also don't know how safe it is

Dude....I love my diva cup. For a while I was somewhere without access to trashcans in the bathroom or sinks and the diva cup was a life saver. While it is gross to empty out once you figure out how to put it in it is so comfortable. I wear it overnight. I also have an IUD which make my period light so the cup is perfect. Like a tampon you can start to feel when you need to change it, but it can hold a lot more. Plus you don't have to worry about keeping a tampon or pad with you. I would suggest trying it out for the first time before your wedding because it will take a couple tries to get comfortable with it. I definitely suggest trying it though.

I use a diva cup, size 2 since I've had a vaginal birth....there are sizes.

I do the classic fold and turn for insertion, it's quick and easy. I will be using my cup on my wedding day, as my period should be starting that day. I haven't had any issues with leaking at all, but I don't know if you want it to be your first experience with it.

Tip-I don't use mine at night time, it seems to get inserted quite high up while i'm sleeping for some reason and it's hell to get it out in the morning.

Thanks so much for the responses, ladies! I have a paraguard IUD so my period aren't affected by it. My doctor said it was fine, so I just ordered a diva cup! I'll have one period before my wedding, so hopefully that will help me get used to it.

If you are going to use the Diva Cup. You need at least two to three cycles to get used to putting it in and taking it out. If you have a heavy period, you have to empty it often.

So I always thought these were weird, and finally got on in January. It changed my period forever! Literally so amazing. Only needs changed every 12 hours, no wasting money/filling the garbage, and so comfortable. Give yourself at least 3 cycles to feel confident with it, at first I struggled and almost gave up. I will never go back to tampons! (Never liked pads, so haven't used those since I was 14 lol)

I did a bunch of research on brands, and settled on the Blossom Cup. Try it, you will be so happy once you get used to it

ETA tips and tricks: I take mine out and clean it in the shower each morning, so that's quick &a easy. Then I just empty it again before bed. Also if you can't get it in place just right( you will know because it won't be sealed properly) do a few squats and then it usually will open itself up and seal properly. I clean mine at the end of each cycle by boiling it in water with baking soda for 10 minutes.

I live my diva cup. My periods are absurdly heavy and this is the only thing that keeps me from going through a box of tampons a month.

Give yourself some time to get use to it (3-4 months at least) and play around with different ways to insert it. I use the fold and twist method.

I shouldn't be on my period on my wedding day, but if a I am I'll use my cup and likely a liner just to be safe.

I legitimately bought mine two days before my wedding as the timing was early bc I was not expecting the issue.

It worked amazingly. The cup was the secret star of my wedding in my opinion. I cleaned it right before I put my dress on (3 pm) and again after the wedding ended and we went back to the hotel (midnight)

I love my diva cup, though I had a bit of a learning curve and it took a few cycles for me to get the hang of it.

My friend swears by the diva cup. I personally never tried. Theres just something about taking it out and cleaning it and making sure its sanitary that freaks me out. Id rather change my tampon every hour if i have to. Try a period tracker to see if you will have it on your wedding day. My periods are very regular and as of right now im in the clear!

I absolutely love my diva cup. It's honesty life changing. Definitely take a few cycles to get used to it but since I've had practice, I haven't had any leakage.

My sister uses them and she says they are great but that she had to do some experimenting to find the right "fit" and it took some practice to get used to.

Also, I had my period on my wedding day and I had no issues or accidents with just a regular pad but I realize this could be different depending on each person's flow.

Whatever you end up using, just be sure to bring something to "do it" on later that night in case it gets, um, messy. Like an old towel or something so you don't stain the sheets! Lol.

The tampon, for those who can use it comfortably and safely, is the best sanitary product on the market. Thirty five years of endometrial issues and heavy periods were the best challenges Tampax could combat -- and lose. I can't get my head around the idea of a vaginally inserted Dixie cup -- but then again, I don't have to even think about it anymore. Liberation is coming, ladies!

I love my cup, except when I start my period at work while my cup is sitting snuggly in my bathroom drawer at home Smiley sad but man it is a game changer. I've had to have one of my bartholan glands removed so tampons really tend to irritate the old scar tissue and the cup is almost like not having anything. Luckily I haven't had to try cleaning it in a public restroom, kinda scared of that experience.

I love mine! I believe the brand I got was the Athena cup (~$14 on Amazon), pre-childbirth size.

I agree that it takes a little getting used to, but once you figure out what works best for you it's super easy! I use the C fold... seems like the easiest way to get it to pop open.

You should try it! I've tried getting my friends to but they think it's gross Smiley tongue

I love my diva cup. Have only had it for two cycles now but it seriously makes my period so much easier to handle. And I think it really helps you learn more about your cycle and it's kind of empowering.

LOVE my diva cup. After some practice, it is super easy to use. You can leave it in for 12 hours and it doesn't leak if you insert properly. No more ruined panties!
